I am so proud of Whitnee! She tells everyone that she doesn't sew but when she gets the itch she sews some really cute quilts! She decided that since she's got the summer off she's going to finish a few projects. She came and spent the day working on her Merry Go Round table runner using a Fresh Jelly Roll. I am so excited to see the finished product!

During HMQS 2009 we had the wonderful opportunity of meeting a new friend. She came to Utah just for HMQS and had never been here before. We ended up crossing paths and had the opportunity to show her part of Salt Lake City. It was so nice to stop for a minute and enjoy the spring, enjoy our surroundings that we so often forget about. The tulips were out and were so gorgeous!

One of the highlights for us at HMQS was to meet Barbara Jones of Quilt Soup. We've loved her patterns but to meet her and realize that she also lives right here in Utah was such a highlight. It was fun to hear her talk about her grandchildren and making her quilts for them. Barbara and Natalia in Barbara's Quilt Soup booth (which I thought was one of the cutest ones there!) at HMQS 2009
We are currently carrying several Quilt Soup patterns. Click here to see her cute patterns!

One of our cute customers Rebecca from North Carolina sent in these cute quilts. For my quilts... The patch quilt is made from five Shangri la charm packs. It measures about 60x53. I cut each 5x5 square into fourths, then arranged them on my backing fabric (off white kona muslin). I then glued each square down with an Elmer's School glue glue stick, basted, and quilted the quilt by sewing straight lines to eventually outline each square. Bound it, then washed it. Trimmed off the excess strings, and the edges of the squares "ragged" just the right amount. I love how soft and comfy this quilt turned out. The coin quilt, is from the moda bake shop pattern. I used the extra row of coins on the front, to equal 6 instead of 5. Two Soiree charm packs.Thank you Rebecca for sharing your darling quilts! You can check out more of her work by clicking here.

Yesterday we had the opportunity of spending the day at HMQS. It's a wonderful quilt show and there were some amazing quilts. We took a few photos and thought we'd share some with you!
We were able to start the day by listening to and viewing a trunk show by David Taylor. His work is amazing! He is so inspiring. I thought the hatching on this quilt was fabulous! This quilt just made me happy and excited about quilting! I want to make one like it but for myself! The pictures don't do this quilt justice. It'd quilted on a conventional machine and it's absolutely fabulous! Our challenge quilt using Quilting Treasures material Elle Fun. This was fun to make. We have several more photos but we'll have to share them another day!

Happy sewing!

These two quilts were made by Vicki B from Indianapolis

Here's what I did with my Soiree Charm Packs & Butterfly Fling Flannel that I ordered recently.
I doubled the recipe for the Stacked Coins Baby Quilt pattern I found on the Moda Bake Shop website. I didn't have a need for another baby quilt just now, so I made it bigger by adding borders. Instead of making the sashing strips between the stacked coins 3.5" (3" finished), I used a white (milk) Moda Basic Jelly Roll (2.5" strips). I also used the jelly roll strips in the borders. The extra coins were incorporated as strip across the back as well. I love it when there is nothing to throw away and very little left over.

I made a rag quilt for my 2 year old granddaughters with the Butterfly Fling Flannel. They love the cozy softness and the bright colors. It's a favorite!

Thanks for sharing Vicki! Your quilts are so cute!

The retreat was at Zermatt Resort Spa and Conference Center. If you are ever in Midway I would highly recommend visiting both!
