Something different.

I haven't touched my sewing machine or quilting machine since Friday.
I took a real weekend for myself.
I needed it.
As I mentioned on Friday my husband was getting ready to run a 1/2 marathon on Saturday.
He ran the race and did a great job.
I'm so proud of him.
I hope some day to have the drive to work out like he does.
This right here is the reason why I work hard.
The reason why I don't can't sleep in.
She's getting so big and so wild!
(As I type this she is in her bed yelling for Nemo, she likes to sleep with a stuffed nemo that is as big as her, and yes it's 11:00pm)
I love her.
Back to the quilting machine tomorrow.
I hope you had a happy weekend.
This week is quilt guild and I'm excited.
Also tomorrow I get to share my new Moda Bake Shop quilt.

It's going to be a great week!
Do you have any big plans for this week?

Why my job is rewarding.

Being a stay at home mom, business owner, machine quilter, wife, bookkeeper, etc... isn't always glamorous. Somedays we're doing good to get dressed, some days I don't get make up on.
BUT.
Some days are very rewarding!
Some days I get to create treasures, well at least I think so.
Today was one of those days.
Well, it was one of those days that I didn't get any make up on.
I did however get to machine quilt this quilt.
and.....
I love it.
too bad I can't keep it!
Sometimes I think quilt backs can be almost as pretty as the top.
Do you like it?
BTW....
Yes, it's Friday night and I'm blogging,
my husband is preparing to run a half marathon tomorrow
so we're staying home,
watching March Madness
and
will probably be going to bed early.

Where are all the pictures of your quilts?

There are a few reasons why I haven't had as many photos of quilts that I've quilted recently..
1- I recently quilted approx. 25 yards of tapestry to be used in recovering a couch. I didn't think that you cared to see pictures of the same material over and over.....
2- I don't really like to post pictures of my customers quilts on here before they see them, so I'm holding off for a few days.
3- I'm working on a few secret projects and I just can't share them here yet.
So! I thought I'd share some fun info today!
(I promise I'll have pictures of quilts tomorrow.)

March 30, 2010

What does March 30, 2010 mean?
I'll give you a hint.
I get to share something new on Moda Bake Shop.
YAY!
Today, Kathleen came over and helped me finish adding the borders.
Thank you Kathleen!
Now, I just need to machine quilt it.
If you want to make this next quilt with me you may want to check out some Frolic material.
This new quilt is made using Frolic and it's so happy.
P.S. Frolic is this weeks weekly deal. This is your chance to stock up on Frolic material for just $7.00 per yard.

I do need help. How to you store your stash? Yesterday I opened up two of my big bags of scraps and wanted to start organizing them. I was very unsuccessful. I have way too many scraps.
What is the best way to successfully store your scraps?

Are you labeling your quilts?

I can't say too much beause I am really bad at consistantly doing this.
However, I realize how important it is.
I (and you) spend so much time piecing, quilting and binding our quilts.
What if something happens and no one knows any history on this quilt.
Doesn't the thought of that just break your heart?

I've got a few quilts tops that were pieced by my great grandmother.
I think..
I have no idea what year.
Or really anything about the quilt.
Except the fact that they were in her house when she died.
How sad is this.

So honestly.
The only quilts of mine that currently have labels are the ones that have been in shows.
Because they had too..
I'm not so proud of this.
The above quilt is currently in the back of a UPS truck on it's way to Texas.
It was really hard to send.
I felt like I was sending my child.
But. I did add a label before I sent it.
I wanted to make sure it'd come back.

How do I label my quilts?
I use label fabric from Wal-Mart.
Print my label from my computer and stitch it on with clear thread.
I did notice over on Tracey's blog yesterday her darling label.
I love it.
I think the idea of her label would be great on quilts that I give as gifts.

So....
Are you labeling your quilts?

Also,
One of my sweet customers made my I'm Blushing quilt!!!!!
Ahh. I'm so excited.
Then I had the privilege of machine quilting it for her.
I switched things up and quilted it a little bit different than mine and I love it!
Thanks for letting me quilt for you!
Also, head over to Whtnee's blog and see one of the quilts that I machine quilted!

What's your notion?

I just put a new blade in my rotary cutter! Man, it's amazing how dull the previous one had gotten.
Each month at our local quilt guild we have a quick tip or trick? A lot of the ladies share their favorite notion. Something that makes their life a little more simple. This sparked a new interest in my mind.
What is your favorite notion?
I would love to know.

It's Monday, lets have a happy week!

I'm still seeing stars, & a big honor!

Do you remember back here, when I thought I was seeing stars? Well, that was just the beginning.
One of our local quilt guilds has been making Buggy Barn star quilts.
I've been having a lot of fun quilting these star quilts for the ladies.
It's so much fun to see how each lady makes the same quilt their own.
I also got to quilt a Buggy Barn Bunny Quilt today.
Have you made a Buggy Barn quilt yet?

Also, I have to share this darling quilt!
Lynne, from England made my I'm Blushing quilt!
Thanks for sharing this picture Lynne, it's such a huge honor that you liked my quilt enough to make it!

Have you ever done anything really dumb?

This is really random.
While I am machine quilting I have a lot of time to think to myself. a lot.
I've been working on a really big quilting project recently, so I've had even more time to think.
Today I was thinking about the DUMBEST things I've ever done.
What is the dumbest thing you've ever done?

So, I hate putting gas in my car.
I've always hated it!
When I learned how to drive I had a new beetle.
It was fun and cute, still didn't want to put gas in it.
My dad would get so mad.
Two different times on the way home from High School I ran out of gas.
One, I ran out in the middle of the street, in front of our neighbors house.
So, I got out and walked home.
Left my car in the middle of the street!
Uhm..... DUMB.....
Today while I was driving I noticed that the gas light in my truck was on.
Did I stop at the gas station?
NOPE!
I seriously thought to myself.
I hope Brad will drive it next and fill it.

I love him!
I hope he doesn't read this...
He might be mad that I intentionally left the gas light on :)

So, what is the dumbest thing you've ever done?
Do  you dare admit it?

P.S. I have been working on a huge quilting project and it's finished!!!
Now I'll have quilts that I can share again.
No more lame posts!

It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Okay, really I don't live in a neighborhood.
My closest neighbor is about a 1/4 of a mile away.
But who cares!
Today was a wonderful day!
Do you ever have days that are just great?

The sun was shining.
I got to go to lunch with some of my great friends.
Whitnee came over and worked on some projects.
I machine quilted 3 baby quilts!
My husband had a happy day!
BEST. PART. OF. MY. DAY.
I got to sew!
For myself!
It's been over 3 weeks since I've sewn for myself and I'm pretty sure my sewing machine was crying!
He missed me!
I missed him!
WE LOVE EACH OTHER!
Anyways........
Are you wondering what I sewed on?
My next Moda Bake Shop project.
I love it!
The colors are so refreshing.
It makes me so excited and happy thinking that some day soon the snow will melt,
we will see grass again,
I will get a tan again,
we will go to the swimming pool again.

Ahhhh.....
Today was a PERFECT monday!

How was your Monday?
I  hope it was happy!

I've got a dirty little secret!

I've been using pins on my applique like crazy.
Recently I learned a dirty little secret!

Glue Stic.
Yes, if you haven't used one before it sounds crazy!
But, did you know, that it's washable.
I like how it holds better than pins.
It's very convenient.
I'll be stocking up on these from now on!
So, go use my applique tutorial and instead of pins, use a glue stic!

I think I've tried them all.......

Every type of batting that is....
I started machine quilting with Hobbs 80/20.
Had issues with it.
Decided to start trying everything.
Not joking, I've tried, green, black, polyester, cotton, blends, lofty, low loft, wool, flame retardant.
You name it. I've probably used it.
Somehow I got my hands on some of this.
I fell in LOVE.
I can't point my finger on exactly why I love it so much.
Maybe,
how it washes, how it layes, the soft texture, it's comfortable to lay under, my tension is nice with it.
I don't mind using other battings, in fact I can think of 6 other brands right here in my studio right now.

What is your favorite type of batting and why?
Really I'm super curious!

I think I'm having withdrawls!

I don't think I've touched my sewing machine in two weeks...
This is just to long.
Doesn't three weeks make it a habit?
I don't want this habit!
This Saturday I'm going to sew!
I promise MYSELF!
Okay, so what to these pictures have to do with that?

The quilt above is a part of the block exchange I participated in last year.
Mine still isn't done...
This year!
I will finish it.
In the meantime I will machine quilt for my great customers!

I love this quilt!
I love the feathers on it.

I love it when I'm pushed outside of my comfort zone!
I grow from it. I become a better person, quilter and more creative when I'm pushed!
My customer wanted the above quilt quilted custom, but no stippling and the traditional feathers seemed to frilly. So I quilted these feathers AND I love it!
Click on the picture and you can see close up what I did!
Thanks for pushing me and expanding my creativity.
