How to: Simple Heart Quilt Block - 30 Days of Sewing Quilt Blocks

With Valentines just under a month away I knew I had to make at least one Valentines quilt block tutorial.
So, today's quilt block is:
Simple Heart
Cutting:
Pink fabric - 1 - 12 1/2"x9 1/2" rectangle
2 - 6 1/2"x3 1/2" rectangles
White fabric - 2 - 6 1/2"x6 1/2" squares
4 - 3 1/2"x3 1/2" squares

Sewing:
Place one white 3 1/2"x3 1/2" square on top of one pink 3 1/2"x6 1/2" rectangle, right sides together.
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner.
Stitch along that line.
Trim 1/4" on the outside of the stitch line.
Press.
Place a 3 1/2" white square on the right side of the unit from the previous step.
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner.
Stitch along that line.
Trim 1/4" on the outside of the stitch line.
Press.
Repeat this process, you need two flying geese blocks.
Sew the two flying geese units together.
Press.

Now onto the bottom half of the heart.
Place one 6 1/2" white square on the bottom right corner of the pink 12 1/2"x9 1/2" block, right sides together.
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner.
Stitch along that line.
Trim 1/4" on the outside of the stitch line.
Press.
Place one 6 1/2" white square on the bottom left corner of the pink 12 1/2"x9 1/2" block, right sides together.
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner.
Stitch along that line.
Trim 1/4" on the outside of the stitch line.
Press.
Sew the top and bottom units together.
Press.
To make the quilt 96" square you will need to make 64, 12" blocks.
Fabric needed:
Pink - 7 1/2 yards
White - 4 1/4 yards
(Fabric shown here is Moxie by Studio M for Moda Fabrics)
Hope you all enjoy! I'll be back tomorrow with another quilt block, click here to see all of the blocks so far.
