How to: Rolling Pinwheel Star Quilt Block - 30 Days of Sewing Quilt Blocks- Star Version!

Okay friends! It's time for another star quilt block tutorial, this is actually star quilt block #18! Crazy how fast 30 days can go!

Thank you all for following along! I love hearing your feedback and seeing your quilt blocks.

Today's quilt block is the Rolling Pinwheel Star.

Cutting:

(This block will finish at 12"x12" square.)

White fabric:

12- 2 1/2"x2 1/2" squares, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of these.

4- 2 7/8"x2 7/8" squares

8- 2 1/2"x4 1/2" strips

Green fabric:

4- 2 78/"x2 7/8" squares, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of these.

8- 2 1/2"x2 1/2" squares

4- 2 1/2"x4 1/2" strips

Sewing:

Place one white and one green 2 7/8"x2 7/8" square right sides together.

Stitch 1/4" on both sides of the draw line.

Trim on the draw line.

Press toward the darker fabric.

Repeat, make a total of 8 half square triangle units.

Place one green 2 1/2" square on the upper left corner of one white 2 1/2"x4 1/2" strip.

Stitch along the diagonal draw line.

Trim 1/4" on the outside of the draw line.

Press toward the darker fabric.

Place a green 2 1/2" square on the upper right corner of the white 2 1/2"x4 1/2" strip.

Stitch along the diagonal draw line.

Trim 1/4" on the outside of the darker fabric.

Press toward the darker fabric.

Repeat, make four white with green background flying geese units and four green with white background flying geese units.

Sew two flying geese units together.

Press.

Repeat, make four of these units.

Sew the four flying geese units together.

Press.

Sew one green and white half square triangle unit, one white 2 1/2"x4 1/2 strip and one green and white half square triangle unit.

Press.

Repeat, make two of these units exactly the same.

Sew the two units to the sides of the center, flying geese units.

Press.

Sew one white 2 1/2" square, one green and white half square triangle unit, one white 2 1/2"x4 1/2" strip, one green and white half square triangle unit and one white 2 1/2" strip.

Press.

Repeat, make two of these units exactly the same.

Sew the two units to the top and bottom or the block.

Press.

Now, to make this into a 96"x96" quilt you'll need the following fabrics:

Green fabric:

5 yards

White fabric:

8 yards

For the version above I simply placed 64 blocks, repeating, together.

For the fun version below I changed the color of every other block to gray and white.
