Austin Bluebird - Custom Machine Quilting by Natalia Bonner

I recently custom machine quilting this beautiful Austin Bluebird quilt for Barb! The quilt is stunning and Barb did a fantastic job piecing and appliqueing the quilt. She sent it to me and asked me to custom machine quilt it for her.

This type of quilting just makes my little heart so happy, I combining feather work with ruler work and a bit of free-motion quilting. I love that it has such a traditional feel, but still a little bit playful. :)

Here's a bit of a picture overload! I really had so much fun custom machine quilting this quilt.
Something I'm often asked about my machine quilting, marking.... yes, I marked a lot on this quilt, most all of the cross-hatching was marked before I loaded it onto the machine and even some of the curved ruler work was marked.

Thanks for letting me machine quilt these beautiful quilts Barb!

I used Quilters Dream Batting and SoFine! thread by Superior Threads.

My machine quilting is done on a Gammill 22" Long-Arm Quilting Machine.

  1. What is your process? Do you photograph then doodle on paper to have a "road map" to follow or do you just go for it? I love all of the quilting, it makes the fabric just dance.
