Half of the fun of making a quilt is looking for the right fabrics and seeing the individual interpretations. Maybe you should just do a pdf pattern price, most people would be more inclined to sign up for that than the expense per month of a whole kit. Look how much work you would be creating for yourself - a pdf pattern is the simple choice!Contented Carolinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04858745267434206788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7878598761175876556.post-45789986308474674422010-09-12T07:48:36.260-06:002010-09-12T07:48:36.260-06:00I think you should sell your patterns/kits. I can't see why the high price for approx 18x18 square of cloth plus the cost of shipping. That is why I don't order a lot of stuff b/c of the cost of shipping. A .pdf would be ideal for me as I have plenty of extra fabric laying about and if needed go to the quilt store for more to match and finish for a quilt I would love to use or give.Grannymamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15849289759584177352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7878598761175876556.post-38701025445320895382010-09-12T05:25:03.183-06:002010-09-12T05:25:03.183-06:00Hi Natalia, loved reading the comments...my two ce...Hi Natalia, loved reading the comments...my two cents, I am doing a bom at the moment and with added shipping cost ( Canada) this quilt will have cost me over 389.oo and that does not include backing and binding. I guess I did not think of this initially. It is one quilt I possibly would never use, so I think the cost is outrageous. Sew back to your question....mmmm I would love to see a bom or mystery quilt being available as a pdf file, we all have so much scraps, I am sure we could do one up without added fabrics, that would bring the cost down considerably. It is hard to satisfy everyone with colour choices, but if we had a pattern we would all bring sew much more to the whole experience. So toodles, look forward to some kind of decision you will make. blessing ms cost per month....7.50 for just a patternSparkyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17456305568995973018noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7878598761175876556.post-68144786980459674062010-09-12T03:53:42.654-06:002010-09-12T03:53:42.654-06:00I've also never joined/participated in a block...I've also never joined/participated in a block of the month due to the outrageous costs most of them charge (i.e. $25.00 a month JUST to make ONE block that ony contains about a FQ worth of fabric - if that!?!?). So, if the costs were more evenly matched to the amount of fabric used - while still allowing for a profit for you - then I would probably be more inclined to participate. :) Hope this helps - and yes, I voted on your sidebar questions too.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7878598761175876556.post-36443486903299786042010-09-11T23:07:46.042-06:002010-09-11T23:07:46.042-06:00I agree with the other commenters - I haven't ...I agree with the other commenters - I haven't participated in BOM's because of the costs. It seems like the charges are for more than the fabric/pattern and shipping. BUT, I understand the logistics of running a business and making money so I don't disagree with the process. If you could figure out a way to make a little money and make the costs reasonable, I bet you would have a lot of takers. Especially because your work is so darling! But it seems like that hasn't been done yet, so maybe it just isn't possible? If you did a mystery quilt and broke down the fabric requirements so that we weren't purchasing a lot of fabric up front and then you sold a pdf pattern each month or week - maybe that would be the way to go? You probably have something in mind - maybe just throw it out on the blog and see what people think? Have fun with it Natalia! Don't stress about it - if it's fun for you - then I say go for it :)~Laurie~https://www.blogger.com/profile/01821627347608119392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7878598761175876556.post-7803959651337742682010-09-11T22:48:56.326-06:002010-09-11T22:48:56.326-06:00I have participated in a few quilt alongs on blogs...I have participated in a few quilt alongs on blogs and love it. I would be willing to pay a BOM cost, including fabric and shipping, of $10-$12. Shoot, I could buy a whole yard of fabric for that price and a BOM doesn't take anywhere near that much fabric. The fun of not knowing what we would receive would be a mystery. One block should fit in a business sized envelope and perhaps two stamps for postage. Just my thoughts on doing something with anticipation yet not so costly. The bonus is we could use up some of our scraps and stash. If there is a large enough group participating everyone would end up with a quilt when done. Thanks for hearing my idea.Just this... Often the quilt top comes in at way over $250. Seems like there are often additional 'kits'; looked into one BOM that had 4 additional kits of embellishments.

Right now I am doing an applique block of the month, which has included all needed items, such as buttons, beads, ribbon and embroidery floss. I am paying $18 a month, which includes the shipping. (the kit comes in a greeting card size envelope, with 1 or 2 stamps on it) Although it includes postage and all the extra items, I still think it is over priced. I get one 10 X 10 square of fabric, but the rest of the fabric is scrap sized. I know it takes time for a shop to put this together, but I still think it is just too much.

I would never do a mystery quilt when I'm paying to receive a kit each month. I want to know what my money is going to give me. The only do mysteries when I can pull things from the scrap box in case I end up hating the final result.Stacihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11183068716476005136noreply@blogger.com
