I finished machine quilting this cute quilt for Sally this morning. I think that it turned out just darling!

Sally didn't want any quilting on those nursery rhymes that she had embroidered so I did a little bit of custom machine quilting.

Bloggers' 2011 Block-A-Palooza

By now, many of you are busy making the final push towards the holidays. But what are your crafty plans as we enter 2011? Well, clear your plate, because we have a great quilt-along planned that will begin in January!

18 quilt bloggers have collaborated to bring you the first-ever Bloggers' Block-a-palooza. We'll jump from blog to blog making 2 quilt blocks per week, wrapping up with a custom setting and layout design to help complete your quilt. I am so excited to be one of the participating bloggers, actually I have been given the opportunity to machine quilt this amazing quilt!

We're calling this quilt-along "Waiting for Spring" because we'll be using the brand new Sunkissed line by Sweetwater for Moda, and the bright colors and botanical prints should help you (or at least those of you in the Northern hemisphere!) push through the cold winter months and have a fresh new quilt ready for the Spring.

Machine Quilting- Answering Questions

I too, would love to know how you got started?? & the cost of quilting, say a Queen size quilt?? LOVE your work... your patterns & choice of fabrics are fabulous!!

Just over three years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter I came up with this hair brained idea. I had never before seen a long arm machine let alone really knew what one was, I somehow decided to purchase a Gammill Premier machine and quit my full time job to pursue a career as a machine quilter. I charge by the square inch for machine quilting. 1.5 cents for all over patterns and 3 cents & up for custom machine quilting.     Sarah Craig said...What kind of thread do you use for quilting on your long arm?

I prefer to use So Fine by John Flynn for Superior Threads

How did you decide which long-arm quilting machine was right for you, size, price, capabilities, etc.? I did a lot of research on the Internet and I really liked what I read about the Gammill machines. I chose the machine that I did based on the weight and size. I felt like with the larger Gammills I didn't have as much control.      Krum Family said...How long did it take you to get so good? Watching your videos, it looks like you just whip through it without even thinking about what you're doing. You are awesome. Practice, practice, practice, I have been using my machine 40+ hours per week every week for the past 3+ years.     Merry Made Quilts said...My question would have to be what's your ultimate, favorite way to receive a quilt to be quilted? You open up the quilt that was shipped to you and say "ahh, they did it just right!"

Nicely pressed (seams pressed to one side, sorry don't love seams pressed open) & the backing and batting 4+ inches larger than the quilt top.

I'm with all the "how long did it take you to learn" and "is it as easy as you make it look" askers.
But also, how many quilts to do do a month?
And how do you stay so stinkin' thin and cute? Wait, that has nothing to do with long-arm quilting...or does it? ;)

I try to quilt at least one quilt per day, so I'd say on average I quilt 30-40 quilts per month.

And to answer your other question..... I need to go on a diet starting December 26th!!! :)

Kathleens' Quilt

As you may remember Kathleen has become a finalist in the McCalls Quilt Design Star Challenge. With this final challenge she has to design one last quilt using her first quilt, "Daisies & Lattice" as inspiration. Daisies & Lattice is one of my all time favorite designs so when she came up with this new quilt that was inspired by Daisies and Lattice I was amazed! 

She is awesome!

 

(yes that's a stove in the studio, it doubles as a counter quite often!)

The construction of her quilt although it may not look like it, is well underway. She has to have this quilt done by about the first of January and then she will need all of your help again voting for her.

In the meantime, did you hear about our block of the week beginning January 11, 2011.

10 days and counting.

Christmas is just 10 days I've been spending many hours helping many of my friends/customers finish up quilts for gifts. 

Here are a few of the quilts that I've machine quilted the last few days.

This cute table runner was in need of some custom machine quilting. 

So I did a lot of custom quilting and it turned out just darling!

I thought that the back really showed off how pretty the quilting turned out.

Next I did some fun custom machine quilting on this Buggy Barn quilt. 

I also machine quilted this simple throw. 

Okay, I'm headed back to the long arm.
