Welded - An AGF Stitched Free Pattern & a Give-Away!

Kimberly from Fat Quarter Shop has teamed up again with Art Gallery Fabrics and created an adorable, quick quilt pattern, Welded. 
Kimberly asked me if I'd join her and make a fun version of this quilt. You know I love Art Gallery Fabrics, and a quick quilt, so I was more than happy to join in!



Kimberly's original version of Welded is pretty scrappy, well, at least scrappy for me. I chose to tone it down and just used four different prints, the Prisma Elements by Art Gallery Fabrics.
This quilt was so fun, and fast to make. the pieces are large so cutting and sewing is really fast. The pattern for this quilt is a free pattern, you can download it here. Kimberly has also created a video tutorial with a few tips to make this quilt even easier, you can check out the video here.

I wanted to keep my quilt simple and crisp, so I chose to machine quilt edge to edge straight lines, They are about 1/2" apart, I used Quilters Dream Poly Deluxe Batting and So Fine! by Superior Threads. I love how this quilt turned out, and the colors are perfect for my new home. :)

    I love everything about the quilting process since I have a longarm and can do the whole quilt myself. I guess the binding would be my least favorite.

    My favorite part of quilt making is to first design the pattern (if I am designing my own), and then to finish the top -- I love seeing a design that lived in my head come to life as a pattern and then come to life as a quilt top and turn out even better than imagined!

    I love how the fabric looks like it was all solids, then printed triangles on it after piecing (even with the seams and triangles going in different directions.) So cool!

    I loved the colors you used. Would you mind sharing which ones you chose? I looked at the collection, and while I can tell which fabric is the white, I can't quite decide on the blue, grey (matte zirconia?) and dark (jet onyx or sapphire sparkle?). The quilt is lovely!

    I love matching a pattern to fabric or fabric to a pattern. I also really enjoy hand stitching the binding down as the finishing step because I get to enjoy the quilt up close for the first time.

    Every part is so much fun! Starting a new project is always exciting. But I love quilting the most. Especially now that I have my own longarm! I've finished more quilts in the 6 months since I've had Mimi than I have in the last 2 years!

    My favorite part is designing it or if I have a pattern, choosing the fabric. I enjoy all other aspects,except for making backings. Your fabric coices her are genius. Love the illusion that the triangles were printed on the entire quilt after piecing solids.

    I get excited when I put together the fabrics and pattern and start planning and cutting - then when it is all cut, the first few blocks have me feeling great. If there are a lot of blocks - the sameness will get tedious and my enthusiasm wans - then comes the borders - I hate borders - I won't accept anything but a FLAT border and that means a lot of do-overs. Then I have to start thinking about the back. A lot of times my back mirrors the front or I will make an oversized block from the front for the back....so I guess I have no favorite part - just parts that are not as much fun!

    I love the quilting with my longarm but sometimes, it takes me awhile to put the quilt on, the "how am I going to quilt it" really slows me down.Once I get past the 1st row or so and the "what was I thinking"mindset, I love, love to quilt. Thanks. So pretty.

    This quilt is amazing with the "gotta have it" written and/or quilted all over it! My favorite part of quilting is giving it to someone. I start each project with a person in mind and imagine their reaction when I give it to them. Wish I could send pictures of those events. Just last week I left a well deserving teacher speechless and a disabled man in a wheelchair and his wife in tears. So my joy comes on delivery day because I made someone feel special. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to share.

    Oh, I'm so glad that you selected the Prisma Elements fabrics! I was wondering what this pattern would look like with them. It's even cuter that I imagined. My favorite part of the making a quilt is the actual quilting part. I also struggle the most with it at times, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

    I really like the fabrics you chose for this quilt, to me it is soft yet bold and definitely would be a great cuddle quilt on the chilly days ahead of us.     Your Welded quilt is fabulous! I love your use of the Prisma Elements! The quilt has movement and energy and style!
    I spend ages searching for the right fabrics for each quilt (so I must like that part) and do enjoy piecing... seeing my vision come together. I'm not a confident quilter, so tend to procrastinate on that phase. I am happy to finish binding my quilts!

    In the past I would have said piecing, however after receiving my long arm about four years ago, today I would have to say the quilting process is my favorite. I still feel like a "greenie" quilter on the long arm and am in awe of all of the beautiful quilting in todays quilts :D

    This blog hop is wonderful. It demonstrates just how big a role fabric choice plays in the quilt making process. You may think you don't care for a pattern when it's really the fabric choices.

    I like different aspects of the quilting process for different reasons. If the quilting is going well, I like that the best as it can transform the quilt.

    I guess the part I like the best is piecing the completed blocks together to see how the quilt actually looks. You see it in your mind, but sometimes reality doesn't see it the same. That is the life changing moment of the quilt. It either becomes a quilt or a UFO.

    My favorite part of quilting is matching the perfect quilt with the recipient. Sometimes its the fabric choices and others its the quilt pattern name. It is especially satisfying when the recipient "gets" the connection.

    I pretty much love every single part of the quilting process, but I think my favourite is taking it out of the dryer when it's slightly damp, blocking it, and running my hands and eyes over the lovely yummy crinkly texture. :-)

    While I certainly love to shop for fabrics and choose my fabrics, piecing the quilt brings me immense joy. I love creating beautiful items from bits of fabric.

    My favorite part (after the planning and buying stage which is probably everybody's favorite part) is cutting the fabric. It's so good to see all those neat stacks of fabrics, ready for sewing. And the least favorite part is basting since it's hard on my poor old knees.
