Christmas Quilt - Custom Machine Quilting by Natalia Bonner

Sharon made this fabulous Christmas quilt and sent it to me for some custom machine quilting

Actually, a few years back I taught, Beginner's Guide to Free-Motion Quilting at Quitique in Las Vegas, NV and Sharon was one of the students in my class. As much as I love to teach machine quilting it's such an honor when my students ask me to quilt for them. :)

The quilt is a fabulous combination of machine embroidery and piecing. I love how crisp it is for Christmas, and Sharon did a great job making it.

I did a lot of heavy quilting, with lighter quilting in some small areas, like the flying geese triangles, I love that by combining heavier quilting with loser machine quilting I can really create beautiful texture.
I also combined heavy and light texture machine quilting in this patchwork border. It creates a fun secondary design and brings those flying geese that are in the outer border more to the center of the quilt, really helping to tie everything together.
In the background around all of the holly and bells I combined pebbles, swirls and clams, it's a favorite background filler and it really helped the embroidery stand out.
I outlined all of the embroidery around the house and the sleigh, and then machine quilted cross-hatching in the background of the center block.
Sometimes quilt backs turn out pretty fabulous, so I have to take pictures of them too!

When I was machine quilting around the words I had my husband help me, and we recorded a fun little Facebook Live video, you can check it out below.

Thanks for letting me machine quilt this beautiful quilt Sharon!
