Happy Daze Quilt - Custom Machine Quilting by Natalia Bonner

Stephanie pieced this gorgeous Happy Daze quilt and sent it to me for some custom machine quilting. Stephanine sent me a few ideas, she wanted detailed custom machine quilting, but really gave me free-range to quilt it as I saw fit.

With the Dresden Plates and the borders I knew that this quilt really was a fabulous quilt to do some fun custom machine quilting.

I used Quilters Dream Wool batting, I knew that it would help to create beautiful texture but wouldn't be too lofty.
I used curved rulers, my favorite are by The Quilted Pineapple, to really make the dresdens pop. You all know that I love to quilt feathers, so around each of the dresdens I machine quilted feathers, with a small pebble border around them, this really helped to separate the background from the dresdens and create the beautiful background pattern. I just love it!

In all of the solid borders, except for the green border I machine quilted straight lines. I chose to do this and keep those borders pretty simple because there is so much going on in the other borders that I really wanted to create a place for the eye to rest.

In the outside border I machine quilted a similar pattern to the center of the quilt, around the dresdens. In each of the corners I added in a fun feather motif.
It turned out just perfect! Stephanie also made two pillow shams that coordinate with this beautiful quilt that I will machine quilt to match.

Thanks for letting me machine quilt this beautiful quilt Stephanie!

  4. This is gorgeous! The quilt is great on its own, but your quilting takes it to a whole new level. I love the blossom look the quilting gives the dresden plates. Thank you for sharing this amazing quilt.
