I did it! In my "spare time" this week, I managed to cut out, piece, quilt and bind.....yes you read that right, I BOUND a quilt! It's nothing shy of a miracle.
Kathleen and I have been working through Modern One-Block Quilts, over the last year, re-making all of the quilts in the baby versions. It's been so much fun to see how different the quilts look from the original versions. So today I'm sharing another adorable quilt from Modern One-Block Quilts; Wiggling. We originally made this quilt using more earthy tones and blue sashing, I do love the original version, but have been dying to make it again using white! I love white!

When I came across this adorable At The Zoo, fat quarter bundle over at Fat Quarter Shop, I knew immediately that I had to use that fabric for my quilt. I love the variety of colors in this bundle, and the scale of the prints is just perfect for this quilt! (keep reading, Fat Quarter Shop is giving one of these beauties away)
After I got the quilt all pieced, I knew it had to be custom machine quilted, so I machine quilted some figure eights in the sashing and then a bud pattern in half of the blocks and a geometric spiral in the remaining blocks. I used Quilters Dream Wool as the batting, it's so yummy and soft!
Aren't those colors so gorgeous! Love it!
So, do you want to make your own version of Wiggling?
Here's your chance to win fabric!
Simply leave a comment below telling me your very favorite type of batting and why. On Monday, 11/10/14 I will randomly select one person to win their very own At The Zoo Fat Quarter Bundle, courtesy of Fat Quarter Shop!
Speaking of Fat Quarter Shop, make sure to stop by their YouTube channel, Kimberly is always coming up with something great!
Oh, and if you haven't seen enough pictures today, here's the original version of Wiggling! :)
Signed copies of Modern One-Block Quilts are available for purchase here.
GIVEAWAY CLOSED!
Winner is Shannon Wallace!
I usually use Warm & Natural, but for a recent quilt I got an 80/20 cotton/wool blend. I've only sandwiched it, not quilted yet, but it's looking like it's going to be really nice.
ReplyDeleteI love that quilt! What a great pattern to show off fun prints! When I quilt myself I used warm and white because it seems to cling really well to the fabric and drapes well. However, I do love my quilts made with Quilters Dream!
ReplyDeletewarm and naturel cotton, thanks
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is so cute and I love the cat/tiger print it's my favorite! I'm using Luna Simple Cotton Vlies for bigger quilts (found it at a favorite online shop of mine) and some Freudenberg Vlies (but I don't know the number yet) for smaller quilts (and I use it because my LQS has it). I'm from Germany so it can be that we have other battings than you in the USA.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! I love those colors! My fav batting is warm and white- it's so easy to work with!
ReplyDeleteHobbs Heirloom Cotton (80/20) works best for me. It has a little more loft and drapes nicer than Warm & Natural.
ReplyDeleteI like the warm and natural cotton! Haven't tried any others yet though so I'm checking to see what all your readers like. Your quilt is just lovely. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI like Warm and White. I make a lot of quilts with light or white backgrounds and I try to maximize my cotton content. I can buy it off the shelf locally and that is a bonus. I won a package of bamboo batting that will probably get sampled in my next baby size quilt. Thanks for the chance to win a great fabric bundle. Wiggling is an adorable pattern.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would have to be Warm & Natural Cotton batting. I love the way it can give any quilt that pre- "Vintage" look & feel.
ReplyDeleteHI, I really like Hobbs Heirloom Cotton (80/20)!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely!
Thanks for a great giveaway!

I am too new to quilting to have a favorite batting, although I am very interested in trying wool. Right now I am quilting a twin sized quilt for my granddaughter with Quilter's Dream blend, and I very much like the weight and ease of quilting.
ReplyDeleteI have used both Warm & Natural and Quilter's Dream. Both work well for me. I love the remade quilt using white sashing. It is delightful.
ReplyDeleteI love warm and natural... Perfect shrinkage for perfect crinklage
ReplyDeleteI have been using a bamboo blend which I can get locally and I like.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt!
Gorgeous quilt, reminds me of Christmas colours! My favourite batting was a bamboo one, I've only used it once in a quilt for my son but it is lovely and soft and with a low loft, sadly it's too expensive for me to use every time!
ReplyDeleteI am a pretty new quilter, and so far have used Warm and Natural, which works just fine for me! Thanks for the giveaway! Love this pattern :)
ReplyDeleteI like Hobbs 80/20. It is soft enough to drape, but still easy for me to quilt.
ReplyDeleteI like Hobbs 80/20 because it is not heavy and very easy to work with. Love the quilt you made. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI love the drape of Thermore batting. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI often use Legacy Cotton Mix Batting which I love as it is easy to handquilt it. Love your new version of this quilt.
ReplyDeleteI use Warm and Natural. It grips the fabric so there's not as much slipping, it's easy to quilt and it's... well, warm and natural. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bundle! For batting I usually use warm and natural.
ReplyDeleteNice job with the new version of your quilt! Glad you were able to find some time. I usually use Warm and Natural because I like cotton and can get it at a good price from Joanns. I have just heard about Tuscany's new cotton/wool blend, which would seem like the best of both worlds. I am anxious to get some and see how I like it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite batting is Hobbs 80/20. I have sworn off 100% cotton. After I used it in a baby quilt, DH asked if I had forgotten to include batting. Duh! Even I couldn't forget batting.
ReplyDeleteI do not really have a favorite; but, I do try to get 100% cotton batting. I think I get Warm and Natural more often than not.
ReplyDeleteHobbs a Heirloom 80/20 is my favorite but I usually use Warm & Natural bacause I can buy it nearby with a coupon.
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten experimental with my batting yet. I use warm and natural unless I really want the quilting to pop, then I try the higher loft blends.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is gorgeous! Love the white background. I've used Warm & Natural for years and love it. It's great to read the other comments as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you and FQS for a super giveaway and a chance to win.

I'm new to quilting, so I haven't used too much batting, normally what looks like it will work from Joann's, LOL. Looks like I need to check out Warm and Natural!
ReplyDeleteRecently used Warm and Natural and loved it.
ReplyDeleteI like a thin batt, so I usually use Quilter's Dream Cotton. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI really like Wiggling! My favorite batting is Quilter's Dream. Have used cotton and wool. I prefer its drape over Warm & Natural.
ReplyDeleteI like Warm and White for machine and Hobbs wool for hand quilting.
ReplyDeleteI like Warm and White, but I just got a few bags of Quilter's Dream that I can't wait to try!
ReplyDeleteI like warm and white, but mostly because that's all I've used. I think. I'm actually not sure what one of my quilters uses...I should ask her. :-) shebec03 at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI use Warm and White bad love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteMost of the time I use the 80/20 cotton/polyester blend because I love how the quilts drape even with lots of quilting. I also love to use wool because of its beautiful loft.
ReplyDeleteWhatever is a decent price at Hobby Lobby or Joann's as long as I can use a coupon.

ReplyDeleteI use warm and natural cotton because I can get it on sale and I like the weight of it
ReplyDeleteHobbs 80/20 doubled, based solely on the fact that the one quilt I did that to is my favorite, warmest quilt to take a nap under. And PS-I love love this quilt.
ReplyDeleteI have been using Hobbs 80/20 for several years now, I just like how it drapes.
ReplyDeleteI use Warm and White ~ mainly because when I first started quilting 2 years ago it was recommended in so many blogs. I haven't tried anything else (yet!) Thanks for the chance ~ fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteFairly new to Quilting, and have used What JoAnn's usually has on sale & with coupon! lol My Sister gave me some Warm & Natural last month, but I haven't used it yet. from the Comments here, seem many looove it. Will definitely use mine soon! :)
ReplyDeleteI use Warm & Natural but have been wanting to try Quilter's Dream. Sewing room is packed up at the moment so have to wait until I get some room. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWarm & Natural batting is my favorite batting, but I also use an 80/20 for some charity quilts when I want a very drapey cuddly quilt.
ReplyDeleteHobbs 80/20 is my go to batting. I like the "beefiness" of it but also a smooth drape. Machine quilts nice.
ReplyDeleteWarm and Natural, is my favorite. I don't like how polyester batting feels when I touch it. I guess I'm a cotton loving girl. Your quilt is beautiful. You finished it so quickly, I wish I could accomplish that. ;-> Toni Anne
ReplyDeleteNatalia, that is quite impressive! If only I had half of your amibition. ;) I truly prefer Warm & Natural because it's versatile, and VERY good quality! :)
ReplyDeleteFairly new quilter here, so usually its warm & natural or soft n craft (an 80/20 blend) I've only done home dec projects and several couch throws and baby blankets.. so sometimes it's whats in the drawer...
ReplyDeleteI have used silk batting that comes off a big roll... I love the feel, and that it breathes and is easy to quilt. However, I have ordered some wool batting from Massdrop, which I think will be great for winter quilts. I am looking forward to try that!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors of your quilt, aqua and red is always a winner! I live in the Middle East and unfortunately
ReplyDeletethe only batting I have found in local shops is Bosal,80/20. Which is fine to work with but I would love the opportunity to try other lofts and fibers, especially bamboo. On my next trip overeseas I will have to stock up!
I like to use warm & natural!
ReplyDeleteI usually use Warm & Natural but have some Quilter's Dream that I haven't had a chance to use yet.
ReplyDeleteI hate basting and find I can get better results with 100% cotton but prefer a "loftier" batting like wool to show off the quilting.
ReplyDeleteI like Hobbs 80/20 because it is easy to work with and not heavy . I did recently buy some Quilter's Dream but haven't had a chance to use it yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!!
I always use Hobbs heirloom 80/20 but am considering trying Quilters' Dream when this roll runs out.
ReplyDeleteI am a new quilter and have only used warm and natural! I do like it but have nothing to compare it to!
ReplyDeleteI like Hobbs heirloom 80/20. It quilts easily, has a nice drape and is breathable. I like Warm & Natural too, but sometimes it seems a little stiff.
ReplyDeleteFor quilts that will go on a bed, Quilters Dream wool is my new favorite. I select more open quilting stitching. Love the light weight and the cuddly warmth of it.
ReplyDeleteBound! look at you!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the Quilters Dream Request and Select, 100% cotton, but I like their poly, too.
I use warm and natural also. I have only made a few quilts so far but I love the way they look after washing with this batting.
ReplyDeleteI prefer an 80/20 blend so alot of my baby quilts hold up to machine washing (and loving)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the quilt! The pattern and fabrics and, of course, the custom quilting! Bravo! I have only ever used Warm & Natural (and have been very happy with it), so I have no comparison to make with other battings. Thank you for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteup until my last project, I had only used warm and natural batting. I tried the Hobbs all cotton. I think I definitely prefer the warm and natural though it seems like it had a better weight both before and after quilting.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is so darling!
ReplyDeleteI have 2 different types of batting which are my favs...bamboo-love its softness to cuddle and wool for my applique beauties. Wool seems to really give an extra specialness to the time spent doing applique.
I use Warm & White (or Warm & Natural) the most often because it never shifts when I quilt it. It is also a nice weight and stays soft when quilted. svonfumetti at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteWarm and natural, because it drapes nicely. Thanks for the chance. Love the quilt.
ReplyDeletejanie.mccombs@yahoo.com
I use Warm and Natural. Thanks!! Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteIn my limited experience (a dozen or so lap and children's quilts) I've only used warm and natural. Thanks for the nice giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI use warm and natural because its usually available for a great price. I have a remnant of batting left from years ago that I loved, but I've not been able to find it again. Thanks for this chance!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is Warm N Natural - easy to find here in Edmonton, and I know what to expect from it at this point after having worked with it so much! Thanks for the opportunity :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Warm N Natural. (dawnm1993 at gmail dot com)
ReplyDeleteright now i am using wool…i want people to sleep under my quilts…i like the texture it creates when it is quilted…i got my LQS to order me a roll and she gave me 25% off…be aware you need some place to store it as when you open the wrapping it expands to a gnormerous size
ReplyDeleteI prefer Quilters Dream Blend, it has 70% cotton and 30 % polyester, lays nice and flat and has very little shrinkage when washed. Mary mburnette912@bellsouth.net
ReplyDeleteI use warm & white.
ReplyDeleteI love warm and natural. so soft and so easy to sew with.
ReplyDeleteallisonpogany@gmail.com
I prefer Warm & Natural.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the quilt, and I love love love working with bamboo batting. Soft, supple, warm enough for my south Texas weather, gives that great crinkly look.....all around great batting to use! Lightweight so I can easily maneuver my quilts through my little machine, too.
ReplyDeleteI like Hobbs 80/20 because it has a nice hand to it. I like the way it washes up in my quilts.
ReplyDeletetushay3(at)yahoo(dot)com
I use Warm and Natural, but I haven't tried any other commercial battings. I did use fleece on one lap quilt and that worked out nicely. I'd like to try some wool.
ReplyDeleteI like the low loft batting that makes my quilts look antique.
ReplyDeleteI use warm and natural...but I haven't tried many others so I don't know if I like it better than other kinds. Nice quilt. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI like Warm & Natural for wall quilts but have been experimenting with wool batting - I might try the double layer approach that some are talking about.
ReplyDeletethanks!
Warm & Natural. Just like the look and feel when quilted. But, I think it is time to try some other batting.
ReplyDeleteI have been using Warm and White, just because it's what I can get on sale locally! Love your quilt and that book!
ReplyDeletesatterfieldfamily at sbcglobal dot net
Love your quilt:) I have been using Warm and Natural and warm and white!! I get it with my %40 off coupon at Hobby Lobby:)
ReplyDeleteI'm allergic to wool, so I really love Warm and Natural, or White and Wonderful because they are cotton.
ReplyDeleteI love Warm and Natural and use that for just about everything. I've never tried a wool batting but would love to.
ReplyDeleteBatting is so hard! I've been experimenting with it a lot lately. I think I like Cotton/Poly 80/20 blends the best, but that may be because I feel like it's the best quality for my money.
ReplyDeleteWarm and White cotton. White because natural might show through. Cotton breaths and poly is to hot.
ReplyDelete24Tangent@gmail.com
I like the Warm and Natural Cotton Batting. I like the look and feel of my quilts after they have been quilted using it.
ReplyDeleteI have been using Warm and Natural or Warm and White Cotton Batting. I love that it's a natural cotton and I like how is shrinks after I wash my quilts to give them that antique crinkly look. I would like to try some other battings like wool in the future.
ReplyDeleteI like Warm and Natural or 100% cotton at the very least.
ReplyDeleteI use Warm and Natural because it doesn't shift, it's warm enough, and not too heavy. Washes well, too!
ReplyDeleteI once used the wool and is was so soft and drapy, I quite liked it, but happy to be personally allergic to it. For most of my quilts, I use the 80/20 however. I even once used the Quilters Dream Green Quilt Batting, the batting made from recycled bottles. It was unbelievably soft and cozy - I just wasn't sure how it would last long term. Try it! Out of habit - I reach for the 80/20.
ReplyDeleteI really like 100% cotton - love the shrinkage on my quilts to get the vintage look. mumbird3atgmail.com
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt!
ReplyDeleteI usually use Hobbs 80/20 as it's readily available!
I like Hobbs 80/20. Just enough loft to show the quilting well, but not too puffy.
ReplyDeleteQuilters Dream. I haven't tried anything else yet, but it's soft and seems to work well. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletetdkcarpenoctem@hotmail.com
Hobbs 80/20 because it's lightweight.
ReplyDeleteI love Quilter's Dream Orient because it drapes so nicely and quilts up beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI Like using a thrifted blanket in between.
ReplyDeleteQuilter's Dream Select.
ReplyDeleteI use Warm and Natural or Warm and White because it has just the right amount of shrinkage. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI am still experimenting with batting...so far I have only gotten polyester and 80/20 cotton poly. I'm new! Quilters dream sounds like a dream though :) I'll definitely be trying that one out and warm and natural!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite batting is Warm & Natural because it's just so soft and evenly layered. plus warm!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for completing a quilt in a week...it's a great feeling and so lovely!
Great quilt! I don't have a favorite batting, I usually use poly/cotton but I am not sure which specifically because I am pretty new to quilting and I am still experimenting with batting and everything else!!
ReplyDeleteI usually use a 100% poly batting because it's economical, easy to manipulate and sew, and makes a nice washable finished product. But I really love the good old feel of 100% cotton, Warm & Natural is yummy!
ReplyDeleteI usually always use quilters dream. Works best for me and my quilts:-) great blog-you have beautiful quilts!
ReplyDeleteI use warm and natural for my family and special quilts OR Bamboo batting, but for charity quilts I use a polyester because I can`t afford the expensive stuff.

ReplyDeleteTerrific quilt! I like Warm& Natural batting the best.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous quilt! The quilting looks fabulous. My favourite type of batting in bamboo. I love the drape, it is anti-allergen, fire retardant and the needle just slips through it whether quilting by hand or machine!
ReplyDeleteWarm and natural works well for me.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 favorites. For wall quilts & table runners, I like Warm & Natural because it is heavier & helps the quilt hang/lay better. For bed quilts, I like high loft Mountain Mist because I like my quilts light & fluffy!
ReplyDeleteI haven't made enough quilts to know what I like, but I know I like my quilts to crinkle like vintage quilts!
ReplyDeleterenae1225@gmail.com
I favor warm and natural for my quilts. Thanks for the chance to win. Love the quilt.
ReplyDeleteI just buy the batting my local discount craft store has on a huge roll. I don't know what brand it is.
ReplyDeleteI love warm and natural but recently using Hobbs 80/20 with great results. I really love your quilt such a great pattern to show off those fun prints! shelleybrown2014@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI've used Warm and Natural, and 80 cotton 20 poly blend, and a bamboo blend. The bamboo blend made the softest quilt ever. I loved it and will use it again. But all 3 were nice. Love your quilt! Darleen jewllbug@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is warm and natural. It always performs! Love your quilt - very cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm good with a poly for most of my quilts. I have used wool, Warm and Natural and the 80/20 blend. With my longarm I don't see a lot of difference and they all seem to hold up well. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLove cotton batting. Perfect for snugly quilts and keeps you warm. Would love to win.
ReplyDeleteI am happy with any batting as long as it is 100% cotton. I don't mind bamboo batting either.
ReplyDeleteI either use Warm and natural or Warm and White but have been wanting to try Quilters Dream
ReplyDeleteI love Warm & Natural. It is so cozy and I love that it is a natural product.
ReplyDeleteI love Warm & White, but have been wanting o try their new Warm & Plush
ReplyDeleteI use Quilter's Dream, select weight. I would love to try wool one day though!
ReplyDeleteI like a Bamboo batting that I get at Joanns. It is eco friendly and feels like a warm and natural cotton with a nice soft drape to it. Cindy
ReplyDeleteI use hobbs 20/80 because that is the easiest for me to find. I'd like to try something else, but haven't gone through the trouble yet... -katariina (FIN)
ReplyDeleteI like to use Quilter's Dream 'Select'....living in a tropical climate, we just don't need super heavy quilts. The Select gives a nice drape with just the right amount of warmth.
ReplyDeleteI love quilters dream...but you know that...lol
ReplyDeleteWarm and white or warm and natural easy access via a Joanns in town
ReplyDeleteHobbs 80/20 is what I use the most.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance.
Gina. Quilter's Dream
ReplyDelete80/20 Hobbs Heirloom. Love the way it drapes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win! I love Quilters Dream Poly! It has minimal shrinkage and resist creases. Plus it's super warm!
ReplyDeleteI just bought your new book to make Wiggling and it will be done with wool batting.

ReplyDelete
