Scrappy Zig-Zags

Patti pieced this adorable scrappy zig-zag quilt. It's so dang cute, and those little strips are only 1" wide. I always love machine quilting scrappy quilts, for some reason working with scraps is challenging to me, so I always think it's so cool to see others' scrappy quilts.
When Patti brought me this quilt she asked me to custom machine quilt it for her, she really wanted something that just made it pop! So, I machine quilted tiny swirls and pebbles in the white background, then I stitched two straight lines 1/4" in from the sides of the zig-zags. I think it really turned out awesome!
I love the way that the scraps all play together, it's such a gorgeous quilt! Thanks so much for letting me machine quilt for you Patti!
In my book, Beginner's Guide to Free-Motion Quilting I teach how-to free-motion quilt pebbles and also the swirls, you can pick up a signed copy of my book here.

  1. I'd say that's pretty good timing. I have a scrappy quilt waiting in line to be FMQ'd at my new machine and the strips are only 1". I've been torn with deciding if I have the confidence to tackle it or if I should send it to you. There sure is a big difference between practicing on small sandwiches and working on a quilt. 1" isn't very wide. Hmmm. What to do, what to do. This is gorgeous. Scrappy is my favorite!

  4. Beautiful quilt, fabulous quilting! I love what you do. I also have that pattern by Miss Rosie on my "to do" list. I'm going to remember you when it's ready to be quilted. Thanks.

  5. Natalia would you be so kind as to ask Patti how long each of the 1" pieces were? I'd like to use up my itty scrap bits making one of these for a charitable project. Thanks bunches.

  6. Love this quilt! What a great idea. I too would like to know the size of the blocks. I could see this in my future.
