Over the weekend I spent some time just sewing for fun. Sewing for fun is always so refreshing and rejuvenating. I decided to get my 7 blocks made for April's Bella Skillbuilder Quilt. I have never made a pineapple quilt block before so when I realized that I needed a special ruler to make it I was pretty tempted to just use a regular ruler and go for it, but I decided last minute to pick up the ruler, and let me tell you, it is totally worth the money. It made making the blocks so much easier and I think my blocks turned out almost perfect!
The block does waste a bit more fabric than I had expected, but, I don't love to paper piece so I think that using the ruler is totally worth the little bit of waste that is created.
You can pick up your Bella Skillbuilder Quilt Kits over at Fat Quarter Shoop! Kimberly and Sherri McConnell from A Quilting Life will walk you through the Pineapple blocks in this YouTube video! Be sure to download the free April 2017 pattern!
And just for good measure I also got caught up on my local quilt guild block exchange. This month we were assigned to make a scrappy spool block. I was assigned light blue. To be completely honest the idea of making the center improv scared me. That's so out of my comfort zone. But in the end it was totally worth it. I love how the block turned out!
Well done! I was wondering about that ruler since I don't like to PP either!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't creative Grids have more than 1? What size is this one? I love your colors!
ReplyDeleteYour block looks great! I've never made a pineapple block--it's on my bucket list though. I have a book and ruler, but have yet to use either--lol!
ReplyDeleteI made a pineapple block using the Creative Grids ruler and can't imagine not using the ruler for these blocks. To answer Sherry's question, yes, there are 2 different sizes. One makes blocks from 4" to 6" finished and the other from 6" to 10" blocks.
ReplyDeleteStunning !
