Dappled - Custom Machine Quilting by Natalia Bonner

Kathy made this beautiful version of our Dappled quilt and sent it to me for some custom machine quilting. The pattern for this fun quilt comes from our book; Cabin Fever: 20 Modern Log Cabin Quilts.

I really love this quilt! I loved making our version for the book originally, in gray and white, but I'm really loving Kathy's version in blues.

Kathy asked me to custom machine quilt this version for her, she asked that I keep the quilting more geometric or masculine looking. I knew right away that I could have a lot of fun with rulers (like my 4-N-1 ruler) and straight lines.
Thanks for letting me machine quilt this beautiful quilt Kathy!

I used Quilters Dream Batting and SoFine! thread by Superior Threads.

My machine quilting is done on a Gammill 22" Long-Arm Quilting Machine.

  1. Love what you did for the quilting and really brings out the modern lines of the pattern. The more I see of these modern tops the more I am liking the feel of them....I am such a "traditional" person but see where there is room for new styles coming for me...love your work Natalia!

  2. Wish you would give us more detail on the process you used to quilt the actual blocks. Did you start with the small blocks in the corner and the move to the large white area? Where did you travel after that? I am a beginning machine quilter so all your commentary is extremely helpful to get a mental picture of how the quilting process transpires regardless of whether using a long arm or a sit down machine. I love the quilts that you do! Thanks so much for posting!

  3. I agree with "galiss" .... I'm becoming more enamored with modern quilts. Your quilting really showcases the quilt, and I love the choice of fabric Kathy chose.
