I recently custom machine quilted this really cool modern log cabin style quilt for Kristy! Kristy actually made this quilt as a gift for her husband. I love it so much, it's fun, modern, masculine and I had so much fun custom machine quilting it.
The quilt is cool and with those modern, improv style blocks I knew that I could add some really fun custom machine quilting. I chose to use two block designs and alternate those two designs on every other block. This is something that I often do on quilts, especially when blocks repeat. I think that it adds a bit of character to the machine quilting, but also doesn't make it so busy that it takes away from the piecing. It really adds to the piecing.
In the blue prints I did keep the same machine quilting pattern all the way through the quilt, straight lines, about 1/2" apart. I chose to do this because by quilting all of those the same I'm giving the eye a place to rest, and then your eye is really drawn to the detail in the white. The white has ribbon candy with a border and also simple straight lines on a 45 degree angle.
While I was quilting this fun quilt I recorded a fun little facebook live video. I've shared it again below, it's always fun to see the process of machine quilting in action.
