Atomic Bloom Quilt - Custom Machine Quilting by Natalia Bonner

Carla pieced this gorgeous Atomic Bloom quilt and sent it to me for some custom machine quilting. The quilt is spectacular and has some really great negative space that I was able to have some fun custom machine quilting for her.

Carla pretty much gave me to go-ahead to custom machine quilt this quilt as if it were my own. She really loves more geometric quilting but wanted me to have with with it. I thought it would be fun to take the idea of the triangles from the inner border and quilt something similar out in that white border, just to add an extra bit of interest to the quilt.
I also played around with the checkerboard border. I quilted some pretty heavy texture in all of the white blocks, and I love how that border turned out.
I chose not to quilt anything on the applique. Sometimes I like applique to just pop and this quilt I think the applique really didn't need any extra detail, it's gorgeous as is.

Thanks for letting me custom machine quilt your beautiful quilt Carla!

  1. This is awesome. Love how you have taken the triangles into the outer border and used the same fill as the centre. I am sure Carla loves it.

  2. So gorgeous! You did this stunning quilt proud!! Do you find that the quilt gets stiff with all that gorgeous quilting? I just wonder how others use quilts when they are tightly quilted. elanagoldberg5@hotmail.com

  3. It must be heavenly to take a gorgeous quilt like this, and so many others I have seen here, and make them even more beautiful! There are certainly some beautiful Masterpieces that ladies quilt. I think the quilts are better than Art hanging in Museums! I'd rather see them being used. The quilts are amazing.

  6. Beautiful! Would you happen to have a photo of the quilt when it was entirely finished, with the binding on it? Thanks!
