Right now I'm actually in Houston at Quilt Market!
Before I left I bought one of Jenny's Quick Curve Rulers. I've always loved the look of curved piecing but it scares me to death! I don't sew clothing for this reason! :)
Once I got the ruler I immediately had to make something, so I actually made a little sample of the free pattern that comes with the ruler, it went pretty good so I decided to join Jenny and Helen in the Curve It Up Quilt Along.
Don't judge me too harshly this is my first time curved piecing, I know my block isn't perfect, but I decided I'd use fabrics from my stash and learn how!
The curves look great - I just bought this ruler, but haven't tried it out yet. I love the churn dash look.
I wonder if you could have avoided the puckers by attaching the curved pieces to the corners by sewing from the inner edge to the outer edge of the block, and letting the curved pieced rectangles hang over the edge? Then you could just trim up the block.
(*I just realized that I don't really know what I'm talking about, and that my comment might not make sense .... but on the off chance it helps, I'll hit publish!)
When I was trying to learn to piece curves, I purchased and used a "Curvemaster Foot" and found this was a help. Now I enjoy sewing curves, although I am certainly no expert, and I used my regular 1/4" foot to sew this block. I just purchased the Quick Curves ruler, too, and I am loving it. Looking forward to more blocks.
Well that looks like a pretty good effort to me. Well done for giving it a go.
ReplyDeleteThat is the best way to learn. You can't learn if you don't try and your efforts look presets darn good!
