Applique Flowers - Custom Machine Quilting by Natalia Bonner

Martine made this fun applique quilt and sent it to me for some custom machine quilting. The quilt was actually made from a double gauze fabric with cotton flowers applique'd onto it.

Because it was made with the double gauze fabric I knew that I needed to use a really soft batting to keep the quilt soft. So Martine and I decided that Quilters Dream Wool would be the perfect fit for this quilt.

If you know me well you know that I love the extra texture that you can add to a quilt by using wool batting, specifically the Quilters Dream Wool batting.

I machine quilted one of my favorite background fillers, the swirl feather in the all of the background. (I teach step-by-step how to quilt this pattern in my book; Next Steps in Machine Quilting.) Then I machine quilted an echo in each flower petal with a swirl in the center of each of the applique centers.

I really love how it turned out! Thanks for letting me machine quilt this beautiful quilt Kathy!

    1. I just love seeing the things you quilt. It so fun to try and figure out how a quilting pattern was sewn. I'm curious how you quilted this without a lot of stopping and starting. What was your path on the flowers?
