Social Butterfly Quilt - Custom Machine Quilting by Natalia Bonner

Katie made this gorgeous version of the Social Butterfly quilt. I've quilted a few of these fun Social Butterfly quilts and had fun with each one. Every time that I machine quilt one I think, ohhh, this is the best one yet, and then I get to quilt another one and it's just as great as the one before. :)

I really like to add the antenna's to the butterflies, I love the extra detail that it adds. On this version I decided to add a bit of extra detail by machine quilting the antenna's in teal and pink thread. If you look closely you can see that the top and bottom rows of butterflies are quilted with teal antenna thread and the middle row of butterflies have pink antenna thread.
To add even more interest and detail to the fun quilt I quilted two different styles of antenna's. The antenna's in the top and bottom rows are straight and curled at the top while the antenna's in the middle row are more wavy. I love them both.
I machine quilted feathers in all of the wings. I really, really love to quilt feathers and I think they just add the perfect bit of detail to the butterflies.
In the background I machine quilted a combination of swirls, pebbles and clams. I really like to combine the three motifs, I like that it keeps the eye moving and doesn't get too repetitive while I'm machine quilting.

Thanks for letting me machine quilt this beautiful quilt Katie!

  1. It's beautiful! I have this pattern and it is on my to-do list. Perhaps I will have you quilt it when I get it pieced. :-)
