I am so excited to share today's quilt block. When I came up with this idea to create 30 quilt block tutorials in 30 days I had no idea where it would take me creatively. Even though I'm only 5 days in I am having so much fun and I feel like I'm growing so much! I just love it!
So, today's quilt block is:
Beach and Boots
Cutting:
(this block will finish at 12" square)
Dark gray fabric - 1 - 6 7/8"x6 7/8" square, cut in half diagonally
1 - 9"x9" square, cut in half diagonally
Peach fabric - 1 - 3 7/8"x3 7/8" square
Rust fabric - 1 - 3 7/8"x3 7/8" square
White fabric - 4 - 3 7/8"x3 7/8" squares, cut two of them in half diagonally
1 - 7 1/4"x7 1/4" square, cut in half diagonally, twice (you will end up with four triangles, set one aside for another block)
Light gray fabric - 1 - 7 1/4"x7 1/4" square, cut in half diagonally, twice (you will end up with four triangles, set three aside for another block)
Sewing:
Place one white and one rust 3 7/8"x3 7/8" square right sides together.
Draw a diagonal line on the back from corner to corner.
Stitch 1/4" on both sides of the draw line.
Cut in half on the draw line.
Press toward the dark print.
This will make two rust and white 3 1/2" square blocks, set one aside for another block.
Repeat the process above using one white and one peach 3 7/8"x3 7/8" squares.
Sew one small triangle, cut from the 3 7/8" square to the upper left side of the half square triangle block.
Press toward the white.
Sew one small triangle cut from the 3 7/8" square to the upper right side of the unit from above.
Press toward the white.
Repeat this process sewing two white triangles onto the rust and white half square triangle block.
Sew the rust and white unit to the bottom side of the 9" triangle.
Press toward the gray triangle.
Sew the peach and white unit to the bottom right side of the unit from the previous step.
Press toward the gray triangle.
Place one light gray and one white triangle, cut from the 7 1/4" together, right sides together.
Stitch along the longest side.
Press toward the gray fabric.
Sew one small white triangle, cut from the 7 1/4" square, to the top and bottom of the gray half square triangle block, just like you did with the rust and peach units.
Press after each seam.
Sew one dark gray 6 7/8" triangle to the bottom two sides of the light gray unit.
Press after each seam.
Sew the top and bottom units together.
Press.
To make the quilt 96" square you will need to make 64, 12" blocks.
Fabric needed:
Dark gray - 5 5/8 yards
White - 4 1/4 yards
Light gray - 7/8 yard
Rust - 1/2 yard
Peach - 1/2 yard
I played around a little bit with fabric placement and came up with this version! I love this one....like a lot!!!!
