Dream Big - Custom Machine Quilting by Natalia Bonner

Over the weekend I spent some time custom machine quilting this gorgeous Dream Big quilt. Let me just tell you, I had so much fun machine quilting this quilt. There is enough negative space and solid colored fabrics that it was pretty much like candy to me.

My friends over at Quilted Works designed this beautiful quilt, featuring laser cut applique pieces. This is one of the many beautiful quilts that they'll have displayed in their booth at Quilt Market this week.
When I saw this quilt I knew that I had to machine quilt some thing really cool in that big negative area behind the applique. So, I got out my water-soluble markers and began sketching, right onto the quilt. I actually drew several designs and didn't love them, but then I came up with the idea to continue the pattern that I quilted in the triangles in the negative space. When the concept worked, maybe even better than I had envisioned I felt like I had struck gold! :)
The machine quilting pattern is subtle, not taking away from the piecing or the applique, but really adds a cool element of interest to the quilt.
While I was custom machine quilting this quilt I decided to create a little Facebook live video, I love inviting friends into my sewing studio, and this video seems like the perfect way to have all of my virtual friends hang out with me.
