Tomorrow is an exciting day!

Tomorrow is the day that my daughter turns 3!

(and I have a beautiful custom quilt to share with you)

I cannot believe how fast the past three years have gone!

I spent a few hours today baking, yup you read that right, I actually baked!

I can't wait to share the super cute puppy cake with you!

Custom Quilting

This week has been full of custom machine quilting. I love it!

I quilted this cute Hugs & Kisses quilt, I may be a little biased about this one. You can see the complete tutorial here.

With some feathers in the borders, I love them.

 I quilted two of this quilt. My friend Rachel from P.S. I quilt designed this quilt.

Designing a Quilt

When you come to my studio don't be surprised if you see a lot of notebooks with sketches drawn on them. I am always sketching something. When I design a quilt the inspiration comes from many things; the fabric, windows, floors, trees, flowers, carpet, doors, clothing, bags, roads. Yes, I find inspiration everywhere. 

When I designed Flower Pops I was inspired by the fabric. I felt like the fabric was very modern with a funky twist. So I immediately began sketching. After I have a rough draft on paper I generally head to my computer and draw the actual quilt in EQ7. Next, sewing, usually I will make all of my blocks, lay it out on the floor and then change my mind. 

This was my original sketch for Flower Pops. 

Yes, it changed a lot. I'm glad it did because I love it now!

Talkin' Tuesdays

Many of you have joined me each Tuesday night to chat on Twitter.

Since I initially began the sewing chat my life has become crazy, my daughter is now taking a mommy and me tumbling class that takes place at the exact time and it's become difficult for me to balance my home life and a weekly chat. I didn't want to totally give up the chat because it has been so much fun. So my sweet friend Cara has offered to take over for me! I am so thankful for Cara and her willingness to step up and help me out. 

Along with Cara taking over we decided to make the chat one hour earlier so more of our friends can join in. 

Starting tonight Talkin' Tuesdays will be held at 7-9pm MST or 9-11pm EST.

McCalls Quilting Design Star Contest

Kathleen has made it onto the next round in the McCalls Quilting Design Star Contest!

I am so proud of her!

Thank you to all of you who voted for her in the last round. Starting tomorrow voting will begin.

This round was a little different for her. She was given a stack of Robert Kaufman batik fat quarters and the challenge was to design a quilt larger than 24"x24" using a noticeable amount of 8 of the 10 fat quarters. 

I think it's going to be really fun to see what everyone has created from their fat quarters.

Kathleen's quilt is Merry Sunshine and it measures 40"x40"

I think it turned out so cute!

I think I should borrow it and hang it in my studio!!!
