Car Quilt - Little Boy Quilt

Becky pieced a couple of darling little boy car quilts. Isn't that fabric so cute and happy!
She sent them to me for some custom machine quilting, lot of little details, pebbles and other machine quilting designs to really make the fabric and piecing pop!
Most of the machine quilting designs shown here are taught in my book, Beginner's Guide to Free-Motion Quilting.
I think they turned out darling!
Thanks for letting me machine quilt your darling quilts Becky!

Merry Merry Snowmen ~ A Winter Quilt

Carol made this version of Merry Merry Snowman as a block of the month through our local quilt shop, Seasons of Home.
I've machine quilted a few of these, so it's always fun to machine quilt each one a little differently to give each one their own look. :)
Pattern is Merry Merry Snowmen designed by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill.

Welcome - Studio Make-Over Reveal

Welcome to our studio. Even though we've been sewing and machine quilting from here for several years now, it's never been quite what Kathleen and I have always dreamed about. We love a clean organized space, and after some very long days... and nights the studio is coming together quite nicely. Yes, there are still more things we'd like to do... but for now, we're in love with the updated space.
When you enter the studio one of the first quilts that greet you is our "Out on a Line" quilt. We designed and made this quilt for Sweet Celebrations, the Moda Bake Shop book. You can purchase the book here.
The cute little red bench is the Sigurd bench from Ikea.
To your left you will see the space with the bed, this space is great for when we have family in town, we have an extra bed for them to sleep in.
The quilt shown on the bed is Wrapped in Red, designed by Natalia and was featured in American Patchwork and Quilting magazine, read more about it here.
On the wall is Kathleen's stunning, It's For The Birds, quilt, Kathleen designed this quilt as her final challenge in the McCalls Quilt Design Star contest, read more about that quilt here.
On the floor in front of the bed is a cute Mala Easel from Ikea, great for the kids to play.
Also on the floor is a Gumdrop Pillow made from Amy Butlers pattern and fabric is Hometown by Sweetwater for Moda fabrics.
In the distance, the quilt on the wall is Twisted Up, pattern for this quilt is in my book, Beginner's Guide to Free-Motion Quilting.
The tv stand in front of that quilt is the Liatrop from Ikea.
One of my very favorite new accessories in the studio is the cutting table. We've been cutting all of our quilts on an old dining room table so this new, higher table is going to be a life-saver, or back saver, when cutting quilts.
The table is made from Finnvard Trestle legs from Ikea.
The table top is the Gerton Table top from Ikea.
The chairs around the table, we've had them for several years, so I wish I could remember exactly where I bought them, but I can't. :(
The quilts hanging on the wall are:
Merry-Go Round by Sandy Klop using Mary Engelbreit fabrics.
Petals designed by myself and Kathleen, you can read more about that quilt here.
In the distance is "Strut Your Stuff" The birds are all from Susanne's McNeil's pattern.
The sewing space. I love this large area.
The sewing tables are Expedit Workstation from Ikea, with one Expedit Shelving Unit on top.
The quilt on the wall is "It's a Picnic Kind of Day" we designed this quilt for Fresh Fabric Treats, the first Moda Bake Shop book.
The cute red chairs are Jules Chair from Ikea. I have horrible posture and these things make you sit right up, they are so comfortable to sit on while sewing.
Also shown are our sewing machines. In the distance is Kathleen's industrial Singer, she's sewn on that machine for 20+ years and it's fantastic.
The machine in the middle is the machine where I do most of my piecing, it's a Bernina Aurora 450, Anniversary Edition.
Also shown is Kahtleen's machine that she won in the McCalls Quilt Design Star contest, it's a Bernina Aurora 440QE with the embroidery module. We use it a lot to do embroidery and we love it.
And lastly, my quilting area. The shelving units in this area are, on bottom the Expedit Shelving Unit from Ikea, on top is the Expedit Shelving Unit.
All of my machine quilting is done on my Gammill Premier with a 10' table. I've had my long-arm for six years now and I love it. I've never really had any problems with my machine and even more I love the size of it.

Now, I can't share all of those pictures without sharing some of the photos that I captured during the process of this make-over.
All pictures below are from my instagram page.
A trip to Ikea.
Thank you very much to my awesome dad for spending a full day building furniture and making sure everything was perfect!
This was the middle of the day, the pile of empty boxes was growing.
When school ended we had lots of little helpers helping to build the new studio.
I love that my baby was totally in the middle trying to help. :)
Chesney trying out the new cutting table. I think she approves.
Quilts.. we have lots of quilts, now we have lots of places to keep them. :)
Thanks for stopping by to see the make-over.

Have a great weekend!

Red and White Quilt

Kathryn pieced this stunning red and white quilt as a wedding gift for her grandson.
I love the pattern, and in red and white it's simply stunning.
I machine quilted it for her, I quilted an all over feather pattern, and I love how it turned out, it added a soft touch to her quilt.

Hope you all have a great weekend! We're getting ready to have our long-arm quilt guild come to our studio for our monthly meeting and we're super excited about it. :)

Quiltmaker's new issue of Quilts from Quiltmaker's 100 blocks is now available. The magazine is darling with so much inspiration inside.
Inside are a few quilts that I especially love!
Above is Kimberly from Fat Quarter Shop's quilt, Spring Fever. I custom machine quilted this for Kimberly and I think it's so cute!
Spin-Off was designed and made by the very talented Melissa Cory of Happy Quilting. I also machine quilted this super cute modern quilt for Melissa it's such a cool pattern.

A Visit to The Quilt Crossing

We spent last weekend in Boise, ID. It was so much fun. My grandma turned 80 years old so without her knowing we all (all of my cousins, aunts, uncles and grandpa) planned a little surprise party. My grandma is an excellent piecer and hand quilter so I was able to schedule in a trunk show at The Quilt Crossing while we were in town.

Thanks so much to Crane, from The Quilt Crossing, for the beautiful photos you took.
A bunch of our quilts all stacked up before the trunk show.
Myself and Kathleen sharing "Orange Slices" pattern is available in my book, Beginner's Guide to Free-Motion Quilting.

On of my favorite things to do at trunk shows is touch and feel the quilts. So of course there was a lot of time sharing, touching and feeling the quilts.
Thanks again to The Quilt Crossing for letting me share my quilts in your beautiful store.

If you're interested in having us come to your shop or guild email Natalia.

Quilts for Little Girls

Ashlee made these two darling quilts for her daughters beds. They are so happy!
I custom machine quilted them for her. The two quilts are basically the same so I machine quilted them basically the same, just different designs in the borders.
The were a lot of fun to machine quilt, here are a few detail pictures.
Usually I mail quilts back to my out-of-state customers, but right now I'm on my way to Boise, ID, where I'll be able to hand deliver these cute quilts and then tomorrow morning I will be at The Quilt Crossing sharing the quilts from my book, Beginner's Guide to Free-Motion Quilting, I'm super excited and hope to have lots of great pictures to share on Monday!

Have a great weekend!

Scrappy Quilt

Marna pieced this gorgeous scrappy quilt as a wedding gift for one of her grandchildren.
She brought it to me for machine quilting, we decided on an all over floral pattern for the main body of the quilt and then I machine quilted some swirls and feathers in the borders. I think they gave the borders just the perfect touch. :)
Even though the machine quilting in the body of the quilt is quite dense it's actually still very soft. I really love how it turned out.
Thanks for letting me machine quilt your gorgeous quilt Marna!

Modern Mix - Generation Q Magazine

Have you seen the latest issue of Generation Q magazine? It's packed full of yummyness! (is that a word?)
In the back of the magazine is Emily Herrick of Crazy Old Ladies new pattern, Modern Mix-Up. I love the solids and colors that Emily uses in this fabulous quilt, but mostly I'm kinda crushing on that quilting. ;) I machine quilted this fun quilt for Emily and I love how it turned out.

You can pick up a copy of the Spring 2013 issue of Generation Q magazine at Fat Quarter Shop.

Machine Quilting Modern Chevrons

I think my favorite modern machine quilting pattern right now is the chevrons, ask me tomorrow and it may be something totally different. :)
Cat designed and pieced this cool modern quilt. She brought it to me for machine quilting and asked me to machine quilt the chevron pattern all over, she liked how this quilt and this quilt had turned out.
I love the little bit of texture that the chevron machine quilting adds to the quilt.

Here is another one of Cat's beautiful quilts that I machine quilted last week.
