So....if you know me very well, you know that I love to sew and quilt. They are my sanity, my passion, my creative outlet. This sewing & quilting community has been so good to me and made me feel at home; here on the internet and as I've traveled around the United States. Thank you!
Did you know... September, along with being my birthday month is National Sewing & Quilting month, I think it's pretty fitting. ;)
My friends over at Fat Quarter Shop have decided to celebrate National Sewing & Quilting month all month long. They have issued a challenge to several bloggers, quilters and seamstresses, the challenge is to sew something out of your comfort zone. When I was issued the challenge I immediately wanted to make one of Kelly's Boxy Pouches. She's always making them and they're always so dang adorable.
Chesney has so many markers, crayons and little gadgets that I keep thinking the Boxy Pouch would be perfect to organize her "stuff." BUT. I do not sew much other than quilts. I think I'm pretty good at sewing and quilting quilts, but the thought of making something that is more than a quilt.....well it scares the crap right out of me! Even more so, the few times I have been adventurous my mom has been there to hold my hand, to walk me through it. This time, since moving, I'm om my own. SCARY!
So, I headed to one of my local quilt shops, Quilted Works, have I mentioned there are like 9 of them super close to me now, it's a quilters paradise here. While there I picked up some interfacing, a zipper and some fun Michael Miller fabrics.
Then I came home.....and cried, just kidding, I didn't cry, but I felt like I was going to, why is this so intimidating to me?
I pulled up Kelly's Boxy Pouch tutorial, and I did it. I made a Boxy Pouch, and I only had to unpick one time, on the first step. :)
I even lined it with an adorable pink and gold metallic fabric, love it!
Thank you so much Kelly for writing a fabulous tutorial, because of you I did it....by myself, and I'm still sane!
So..in honor of National Sewing & Quilting month the Fat Quarter Shop girls have created an adorable free Color My Heart Quilt Pattern, the pattern is available here.
Make sure to check out all of the other quilters and seamstresses that have joined this challenge!
You should join the challenge too, and then share your pictures on Instagram using the hashtag #fqschallenge

Hope you all have a great week!!!!! I'm feeling like I can conquer the world, now that I made a boxy pouch! :)
It looks adorable Natalia! I enjoyed reading about the process you went through to make this pouch. I feel the same way sometimes when I'm going to try something new! But, you got it! Congrats! Well, my turn is next week!
ReplyDeleteSo proud of you!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that pouch...and the fabric you chose!! :-)
ReplyDeleteFunny you posted this, as I've been working on a double wedding ring and needed a break (blocks are done, I'm joining them up, just short of half way) so made a quilted box I've had pinned on pinterest since, oh 9 months ago. Great for taking a mental break. The pouch is super cute.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Natalia. I've made a few and they are lots of fun. September is my birth month, too. What day is your special day?
