Making a House a Home

The last two weeks have been crazy! Hopefully I'm getting into a new normal routine and I'll be back to blogging.
To make a long story short, for the last several years my husband and I have been renting, working hard, saving money and looking for the right home for our family.
In July we found the perfect house, a house that we felt fit our budget was the right size for a little family and had a little bit of space for me to still be able to work from home.
In August we bought the house. After renting for the past several years it feels so good to be in our own home again. We are loving everything about our home and feel like we have found the perfect place for us.

Because we are in a newer neighborhood our internet options are much more limited than before. So after we found a service provider we found out that we'd have to go two weeks without internet. In some ways that has been nice, but at the same time, when you're generally a pretty regular blogger it's super frustrating. But, I've survived and today we have internet again! YAY!

I have been having so much fun adding a bit of me to this house to make it our home, if you follow me over on Instagram you've probably already seen what I've been up to, but if not here's a few fun pictures. :)

The picture above is my dining room table, I actually bought our table several years ago, right after we were married, I still love it and it fits perfectly in our home. I have used many of our quilts to add pops of color to our home and I just love them. The quilt on the table is Bow Ties, pattern for this quilt is from our book; Modern One-Block Quilts. This is the baby version and I made it using some yummy Birch Fabrics.

In my family room I have my quilt ladder displayed, another fun way to share a few of my quilts. The ladder was made by Sara of Sara Cecil Quilts. I love it, i'ts perfect for displaying several quilts.
I have the following quilts displayed here:
(from left to right, top to bottom)
Jelly Roll Jam II, it's a free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. I blogged about it here.
Beads, a quilt that I designed for Quilts & More magazine, summer 2014 issue. I blogged about it here.
Knots, a quilt that I designed for Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe back in 2012. I blogged about it here.
Rotating Snowballs, a pattern designed by Kathleen and I, the pattern is available in our book; Modern One-Block Quilts.
Cursor, a quilt that I designed for American Quilter Magazine in 2014. I blogged about it here.

I've got a few more quilts displayed in my family room, from left to right:
Lattice, pattern is from our book; Modern One-Block Quilts, this is the baby version.
Alternating Stars, pattern is from our book; Modern One-Block Quilts.
Jelly Roll Jam, a free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. I blogged about that quilt here.
Churned, pattern is from our book, Modern One-Block Quilts.

I have always dreamed of Chesney having an adorable bedroom, and finally things are starting to come together. I bought her adorable bed several years ago, actually before I was even married. I fell in love with the bed, it was missing the side rails so I got a steal of a deal. My dad is pretty handy so he built the side rails and it looks perfect!

The quilt on her bed is Pushover, pattern is from our book; Cabin Fever: 20 Modern Log Cabin Quilts. The pillows (pattern) on her bed are also from Cabin Fever.

I'm still working on organizing my quilting room, but this was my first little project in there. I don't have a ton of notions, but the few that I do have I wanted to be organized and easy to access, so I bought this peg-board at Home Depot, then I spray painted it this fun teal color and hung it up. I'm loving it. It was a fun, pretty inexpensive way to organize my notions.

In my bedroom I have draped our Mellow quilt over the end of the bed, I love the little bit of color that it adds, yet keeps my bedroom very calm feeling.
The pattern for Mellow is from our book; Modern One-Block Quilts, it's actually the cover quilt. :)

  3. I just bought your book Modern Log Cabin Quilts. I'm eager to use it; however, due to some home improvement projects, my sewing room is packed in boxes in the basement. I'm suffering from lack of fiber in my life!!
