I recently custom machine quilted this gorgeous Metro Twist quilt for Raquel. Raquel did a fabulous job piecing this beautiful quilt and I had so much fun machine quilting it for her. I love the bit of white, negative space where I was able to add a bit of subtle detail with my machine quilting.
The quilt is big, about 100"x115" so it's hard to get a good picture of it, but I think you'll get the idea just how beautiful it really is.
When it came time to custom machine quilt it I decided to machine quilt feathers in all of the prints. There is enough going on with the prints already that the feathers were the perfect fit, they didn't add a ton of detail, but just enough to keep the quilt beautiful. Also, with the feathers, I chose to machine quilt them going in opposite directions. I felt like by doing this it doesn't make the quilt super directional.
I stitched in the ditch around all of the piecing and then an echo stitch about 1/2" away from the ditch on the white. In every other row of white I quilted straight lines about 1/2" apart and swirls in the other rows. So, why did I alternate designs? I did this for a couple of reasons, the first was to create a bit more interest, the second reason, by stitching the contrasting designs, even though there is a lot going on it really gives the eye a place to rest.
There is also one little block that is different from all of the others, I'll let you see if you can find that. :)
Pattern for this gorgeous quilt is Metro Twist by Sew Kind of Wonderful.
Thanks for letting me custom machine quilt your beautiful quilt Raquel!
