Machine Quilting Fast Borders With Natalia Bonner

 Borders are so much fun, the swirl is always a great fun go-to border. Today's YouTube video will feature my swirl and my swirl with a little feather! I hope you find just a little bit of inspiration today!

In this fun online class Natalia Bonner will teach you step-by-step how to machine quilt 10 new border designs with 9 bonus variations. Natalia will teach you ruler quilting and free-motion quilting. What You Will Need
Something to quilt on. Natalia will be quilting all of her designs on a custom Let's Stitch - Borders & Sashing panel; you can purchase a panel from Honest Fabric. Natalia will be stitching on the 51"x60" size.

Batting
Natalia will be using 1 layer of Quilters Dream Poly Deluxe Batting.

Rulers
Natalia will use four of her machine quilting rulers; 4N1, Mini 4N1, Inside Out & Mini Inside Out.

Thread
Natalia will use So Fine #401 on the top and Bottom Line #624 of the bobbin.

Fabric
If working with the custom panel you will only need backing and binding material.
Turquoise - 1/2 yard
Lime - 3/8 yard
Yellow - 1/2 yard
Orange - 3/8 yard
Pink - 3/8 yard
White - 1 5/8 yard
Backing - 3 yards
Binding - 1/2 yard

Skill Level
Students should have a basic knowledge of free-motion quilting and machine quilting with rulers. 
Anyone on any machine with the ability to machine quilt with rulers and free-motion quilt can join Natalia's classes. 
Beginner's Guide to Free-Motion Quilting book or online class recommended as a pre-requisite to this class (but not required).
Visual Guide to Creative Straight Line Quilting is also recommended as a pre-requisite to this class.

Friends! I'm so dang excited to share this fun quilt with you today! It seems like I don't get as much time to sew just for myself these days, but today I did take the time to create something just for me and I'm in love with it! 

Introducing -- The Trailer: Machine Quilting Ruler

Quickly after developing my first machine quilting ruler and using it a lot, especially in classes I came up with a few more ideas that I really wanted to use and incorporate into a second machine quilting ruler. 

Over the last year, since developing the 4-N-1 Machine Quilting Ruler I've had several people tell me that the ruler looks like a VW Beetle, and some of you might know, I've owned a few of those cars and love them. After I came up with the concept for this new ruler and sent a photo of it to my mom, she quickly responded and said, you should call it The Trailer, it looks like a trailer and is the perfect follow up to the 4-N-1 Machine Quilting Ruler. So, that's where the name came from.

Gravity Quilt - Custom Machine Quilting by Natalia Bonner

Over the last few years I've machine quilted several of these gorgeous Gravity quilts. Each one of them has been so much fun to quilt. I love playing with modern designs and of course the custom machine quilting on the solid fabrics really shows off.

Pam made this beautiful Gravity quilt and sent it to me for some custom machine quilting. She loved how I had quilted the other Gravity quilts and wanted something similar, but if you know me, you know that I don't like to machine quilt two quilts exactly the same, so they might but similar but no two are exactly the same.

Scallops are one way to really add a lot of great detail to a border. I could talk about scallops for days, but for today I've got this fun one to show you.

I'm also excited to share another fun video featuring my new 4-N-1 machine quilting ruler. Today I'm using the medium size curve to quilt this fun block. I love this block because you could just stick with the first layer of curves and keep it simple, or continue adding curves and really dress up the block. You could also use the smaller or larger side of the ruler to quilt the same design on smaller or larger blocks.

In this tutorial I use the top, larger side of the ruler to quilt this design. I love that this design is pretty simple, but it adds so much to any square quilt block. You could even dress this block up by adding a fun motif to the center or some fun fills to the outside curved areas, oh the possibilities are endless!
