Baby Girl Quilts

I recently machine quilted these two darling baby girl quilts.
I think the pinwheels on both of the are adorable!
Are you on Facebook?
I've been having fun recently posting pictures of what's on my cutting table over on Facebook, yesterday Patty shared hers too! I'd love to see what's on your cutting table right now. That's right, don't stop and clean it up, just snap a quick picture and share it on our Facebook page! I can't wait to see!

Minky - what I think-

I just finished quilting these two darling all Minky quilts.
I asked yesterday your opinions of Minky and it seems as though most have the same opinion.
Minky has a lot of pros and cons. Here are a few of my opinions.

Pros
It's 60" wide
It's super super soft
It's nice to cuddle with
It gives quilts a little extra body
There are so many darling prints and colors now available

Cons
Cost
Stretch
Distortion
Hard to stabilize

I have really mixed opinions of Minky, I think I feel the way most of you do. I don't mind quilting with it on the Long Arm machine if it is used as the backing and the backing is at least 5" larger than the quilt top.  I have tried quilting with it on the long arm with cotton fabric on the top and minky as the backing with no batting and I was very unhappy with the result. Because of the stretch of the minky on the Long Arm machine it seems like the batting acts as a stabilizer.

If you are looking for a super soft alternative that is a little more stable and not so expensive try fleece. I've quilted with it as backing on a few quilts and it quilts beautifully.

Petals in Daydream Cottons

My LQS kitted up a bunch of my Petals patterns from Charlevoix. They sold out fast. Since they sold so fast they wanted to make more kits but this time use Daydream Cottons. So I made this little sample and I love it! It's so spring and happy!
I will custom machine quilt it this weekend, but I just had to share a little picture :)
Full quilt kits are available here.

Urban Challenge -UTAH-

As many of you know I am pretty passionate about the Make - A - Wish Foundation, especially fond of the Utah chapter. I recently had the opportunity to attend their annual Gala and it was amazing. I don't know how those parents & children do what they do, they are AMAZING!
In 60 days the Make - A - Wish Foundation of Utah is hosting an event that I can't wait to take part in. It's called "Urban Challenge Utah." It sounds like it's going to be such a fun event. If you live in or around Utah I'd recommend checking it out. The challenge is going to be similar to "The Amazing Race"

Alex Anderson's 4-in-1 Essential Sewing Tool

I recently received this AWESOME 4-in-1 Essential Sewing tool. I think I am a sucker for little gadgets.
Alex Anderson designed this cool tool it includes a Seam Ripper, Stiletto, Presser & Turner.
How cool is that!
The Seam Ripper is a Bernina Seam ripper. I love my other Bernina seam ripper so I'm sure I'll love this one. And I love the big easy to grip handle.
The stiletto is longer so it seems like it'll be super nice for pressing.
The cap for the stiletto is flat, perfect for pressing.
Pretty cool isn't it!
Do you have one of these?
If not what is your favorite sewing notion?
