Star Quilt {Aunt Addie's Album}

Aunt Addies Album

From your background fabric cut;
1 - 7 1/4" square, cut in fourths diagonally
4 - 3 1/2" squares
1 - 6 1/2" square

From two different blue prints cute;
2 - 4 1/4" squares, cut all four squares in fourths diagonally.

Sew the two different blue prints together as shown in the image above. You will need four blocks for each side.

Now sew those triangles onto your large background triangles, creating four flying geese blocks.

Now sew your remaining background blocks onto your flying geese. As shown in the image above.

Sew the three sections together to create on Aunt Addie's Album block.

  2. I don't understand - if the 3.5" blocks go on the corners and 6.5" block is in the center, then assuming the seam allowances are all the same (I'll assume 1/4"), and you're not trimming, then wouldn't the small blue triangles have to be cut from 3.5" blocks, not 4.25", and the large triangles cut from 6.5" blocks, not 7.25"?

    1. On the corner squares and the center square, you are correct (1/4" seam allowance).

      When a square needs to be cut into triangles, they need to be larger to accommodate the additional area to be sewn (the third leg creating the triangle instead of square).

      I hope this makes it a little easier. I learned it through trial and error.

  4. This will be perfect for blocks that I want to embroider a design within! (And, Aunt
    Addie was my husband's "favorite" aunt! Thank you for the block and precious memories of both Aunt Addie AND my sweet husband!
