How to: Virginia Reel Quilt Block - 30 Days of Sewing Quilt Blocks

Hey there! Are you all ready for another quilt block tutorial? Today's block is another fun block, this quilt block could be made in several different ways, but today I'm sharing how-to make it using half-square triangles.

So, today's block is:
Virginia Reel

Cutting:
(This block will finish at 12"x12" square.)
White fabric - 8 - 3 7/8"x3 7/8" squares (Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of these blocks.)
Mustard fabric -4  - 3 7/8"x3 7/8" squares
Gray fabric - 4 - 3 7/8"x3 7/8" squares

Sewing:
Place one white and one gray 3 7/8" square, right sides together.
Stitch 1/4" on both sides of the diagonal draw line.
Cut on the draw line.
Press toward the dark.
Repeat, make a total of eight gray and white half square triangle blocks.
Repeat the same process with the remaining white and the mustard 3 7/8"x3 7/8" squares, make a total of eight mustard and white half-square triangle units.
Sew two mustard and white and two gray and white half square triangle units together.
Refer to the illustration above for correct placement.
Press.
Make two of these units exactly the same.

Another fun block!
Now you can make it into a quilt!
To make the quilt 96"x96" square you will need to make 64, 12" blocks.
You will need the following fabrics;
White - 6 1/8 yards
Mustard - 3 1/8 yards
Gray - 3 1/8 yards
For this fun version I simply rotated every other block, again it's super duper cool to see the new pattern that is created by just a simple block rotation. So cool!

Hope you all enjoy! I'll be back tomorrow with another quilt block, click here to see all of the blocks so far.
