Fabric Star

I can't claim this project as my own but I am sharing it because I LOVE it!! My friend made this darling little star using fabric. I haven't dared take it apart to figure out how she made it because I'm afraid I won't be able to get it back together as perfectly!

I haven't seen her again since but when I do I am going to figure out how to make these!

I had to share the front and the back, don't you think it would be so cut to make a whole bunch of these and decorate your whole Christmas tree with these?

So, in the meantime, if you have any idea how to make these little stars, it measures about 4" across, I would love to know:)

Let Me Sew

My friend who sent me this poem also sent this one today! I love it!

 LET ME SEW (sung to Let it Snow)

 Oh the weather outside is frightful
 But my fabric is so delightful
 I wish I'd no place to go

 My kitchen floor sure needs mopping
 But I've bought some beads for topping
 I should finish my UFO

Beautiful Winter Photos

This morning when I woke up I looked out the window at this beautiful scene. So, I must share the beauty with you. Now don't forget I am not a snow person, in fact I'd rater be setting on the beach in Hawaii right now but since I'm not I'll stay inside and pretend that the snow is warm:)

The picture above is out my kitchen window. That's how close we are to Deer Creek Resivor.

This shot is looking out my office window. Our neighbor is growing a pine tree forrest, for fun, except for the deer eating all of our plants I think it's rather pretty!

Right behind the lake there is a beautiful mountain called Timpanogas.  It's extremely breath taking from here.

There is a legend behind this mountain that I thought I'd share. This is a love story of Timpanac and Ucanogos, a young American Indian couple who fall in love despite the disapproval of the maiden's tribe.

Together they face persecution, emotional and physical challenges and ultimately death. The legend of the young couple is one that has been told for hundreds of years, and is the myth and lore behind one of Utah's highest peaks, Mount Timpanogos. There are various versions of the lore. After the brave Timpanac was killed climbing the mountain the Indian maid Ucanogos was so heart broken she laid down and died there forming what is said to be her shape and profile there on the mountain range. If you look from left to right in the picture above you can see her profile there

I have to tell you that this is mountain is the second highest mountain in the Wasatch Mountain Range. It's elevation is 11,749' above sea level and I can say that I have hiked to the top, once, that was enough! If you are ever in UT and get the chance to do so I would recommend it, its gorgeous from there!

Moda Bake Shop {Sneak Peak}

I am so excited I can't stand it! Next week my first Moda Bake Shop tutorial will be posted!

 I spent most of the day Saturday quilting the quilt, I'm loving how it's turning out. I was planning on finishing the quilting yesterday but my plans came to a halt when I woke up and the whole right side of my body was stiff. So stiff I couldn't move my head or lift my right arm.....not a good thing when I need to be doing a lot of detailed quilitng:( So I spent the day taking Ibuprophen and Tylenol, taking naps and ejoying a nice back rub from my husband. Today I feel much better so I'm determined to get tihs quilt finished! :) Then I get to send it off to Kathleen and let her work her magic on the binding.

About this quilt, here's what I can tell you right now. It's made from fabrics from Blush by Basic Grey for Moda fabrics and the complete tutorial will be available next week! I will for sure tell you when its up.

How was your weekend? I hope that no one else had a back ache all day!
**Update, I just finished quilt the quilt and my back and neck are super sore again...:( Guess hubby will have to give me another back rub!! :) Now, just get it bound and I can share the finished quilt!

Row Quilt {update, new photo}

 

{I've updated and added the top photo. I think it shows of the quilt a little better, also I'm thinking that the total cost of this project would be about $70.00}

My fiend Cat designed this quilt (along with this Summer Dreams quilt, this Hidden Petals quilt, and this Cantella's Box quilt). I love this quilt. She does an amazing job designing. I've been eying this quilt for quite some time. Then we came up with the idea that it would be so much fun to make this quilt using Essence by Sandy Gervais.

So, I need your opinion, help, feedback. Would you be interested in making this quilt with us during the 2010 year. You would purchase the kit, which would include the materials and the pattern and then starting in January 2010 we would send you all of the needed materials for a row. (If you would like we could send all the materials in January.) Then we would make this quilt together throught the year.

{Creative Guest} Amy Ellis

A little bit about me - My name is Amy, I am a wife and mom first, but I LOVE to quilt and play with fabric whenever I have a chance! I've been blogging for a year and a half over here, and hope to inspire quilters to dig into their fabrics and make something beautiful.

The beginning~
I learned to sew garments as a girl. My mom is left handed and didn't want to teach me "backwards" (I'm right handed) so she found the local 4-H group and enrolled me in the program. I worked with the ladies there sewing clothing for myself, learning the ins and outs of selecting patterns and fabric. Looking back I made myself some funky clothes, but they were well made. I think the most challenging outfit was a fully lined vest, with matching yoked culottes when I was 12 - glad I don't have a picture of those at the moment! I learned all the rules of proper garment sewing - some I abide by still, others I don't, but it's good to know that I can :)

Quilting Beginning~
Shortly after Ella (now 9) was born, I got a little Janome Jem for my birthday present. I had gone to college without a sewing machine, and entering motherhood I was itching to create in fabric again. I found a couple of books on quilting and read up on the basics of quilting - how hard could it be, I sew clothing right!? The book I had was written by a couple of very traditional quilters - lots of rules, and quirky ways of doing things. I put together a few projects here and there, making it work for me the best I could!
Toward the end of my 4th pregnancy, three years ago, I discovered a bit of my own design sense and pre-cut fabrics! Along with a need to create to find my sanity midst the busy, busy days as a mom of 4. Then, I discovered blogland, soaked up lots of information and inspiration, and within weeks started my own blog. Since then my quilting journey has been chronicled, along with many family moments there on my blog! I'm pleased to look back and realize how far I have come as a quilter in a relatively short time!
I believe anyone can create beauty. We all choose different fabrics, styles, and patterns, BUT each quilt is created with love - making it beautiful! I hope that you are inspired to create what you dream of in fabric, you never know what can happen when you dream big!

Layer Cake & Jelly Roll quilts.

One of my awesome customers pieced these two quilts using my Good Night Monkey Boy tutorial. I am so honored that she made these with my tutorial and then had me quilt them!

The one above she made using a Glace layer cake and a Wheat Flour jelly roll.

This one she used a Simple Abundance layer cake and a Wheat Flour jelly roll.

She used fleece for the backing. This was the first time that I quilted with fleece for backing material and I have to tell you that I was quite impressed. I really like how it turned out. It gave the quilting a cool dimension, so I just had to share!
