Fresh Mini Quilt Club - March 2013

Earlier this month I signed up for Megan's Fresh Mini Quilt Club. It seems as though whenever I sew anything for myself I'm always on a tight deadline and my projects are usually pretty time consuming. I signed up for the Fresh Mini Quilt Club because I wanted to make something simple and quick for myself. :)
I used these darling Sue Spargo, for Robert Kauffman fabrics and I love the colors.
When it came time to machine quilt my mini quilt I decided to quilt it just like my "Over Under" quilt. I loved how the circles turned out on that quilt so I quilted them again....and I still love them!
I used a grey Bella Solid for the backing and I think the machine quilting turned out pretty cute on the back too!

Hop on over to Megan's blog, Canoe Ridge Creations, I think you can still sign up for the Fresh Mini Quilt Club!

Union Jack Quilt

Sheila pieced this fantastic Union Jack quilt.
Last year I had machine quilted a Swoon quilt for her and she loved how it turned out, so again she gave me free reign on this quilt.
I wanted to keep the machine quilting simple yet effective, so I machine quilted a wavy line that echos itself. I really love how it turned out.
I wish each one of  you were at my studio today so you could see and feel the texture that I was able to create on this quilt, sometimes I feel like camera's just can't capture it all. :)
Sheila also made a pretty awesome Union Jack quilt back.
Thanks again Sheila for letting me machine quilt your beautiful quilt.

Over Under ~ A Piece N Quilt Original Design

Every time I design a new quilt it right away becomes my new favorite quilt, and in my mind I totally re-do my bedroom decor and imagine how cute each quilt would be on my bed.... This time, I'm serious. I totally want to re-do my bedroom and put this quilt on my bed. :)
Over Under is a fun twist on a traditional quilt block. The pattern for my new quilt is featured in the May/June 2013 issue of Quiltmaker Magazine, and will hit newsstands in just a couple weeks.
Since this is my quilt to keep I did something totally different, well for me, with the machine quilting. I machine quilted circles, lots and lots of circles. I love the curvature that they added to this very geometric quilt. :)
Quiltmaker Magazine has magazines and kits for Over Under available for purchase here.
I love how they displayed it on a bed in the magazine, it totally makes my bedroom make-over look like it can become a reality! :)

Also, since I know someone will want to know, below are the exact fabrics that I used to make the quilt.
Folkloric Blooms AUC-13416-213 TEAL

Folkloric Blooms AUC-13415-50 LIME

Jelly Roll Race Quilt

Teresa made this soft and beautiful floral Jelly Roll Race quilt.
She brought it to me for some machine quilting, we chose to machine quilt it in a soft floral pattern with a pastel green thread, the machine quilting really blended in nicely with her fabrics.
Love how it turned out!
Thanks for letting me machine quilt another one of your darling quilts Teresa.

Chicken Quilt

Last fall I traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was a fun couple days and I had a lot of fun teaching and helping the students in my classes create fun quilts.
One of the classes that I taught was Susanne McNeil's chicken quilt made from jelly-rolls.
Judy was one of the students in my class, I've actually met Judy a few times now and machine quilted several of her darling quilts.
During the class Judy was able to get all 6 of her chicken blocks pieced. She then went home and put the rest of the quilt together. I love how bright and happy her chickens are.
Judy then sent me her quilt for some machine quilting. We chose to quilt it with an all over pattern, chicken wire.
I love the look that it created.
Thanks for letting me quilt your darling chicken quilt Judy.

Email Natalia for more information about teaching and trunk shows.

Merry Merry Snowmen ~ A Winter Quilt

Merry Merry Snowmen seems to be quite the popular quilt around here! I think I've lost track of how many of these I've quilted, although they have all been from the same pattern, they have each had their own little twist making them so much fun to machine quilt.
This version was made by Brooks, it's super cute!
Of course this quilt needed to be custom machine quilted to really add to all of the fun things going on with the snowmen.
A few details about this quilt...
Fabric used is by French General for Moda Fabrics.
Pattern for Merry Snowmen is by Bunny Hill Designs, available here.
Fat Quarter Shop also has kits for this quilt available here.
Most of the machine quilting designs are taught in my book, Beginner's Guide to Free-Motion Quilting.
