Don't be negative!

I try not to ever be negative on my blog.
This is a place to be inspired, to be uplifted and to make my desire to create grow.
However, today, my desire is gone!
Yesterday I taught a class of about 100 School teachers and 4-H advisers. After the class was over I let them come up and look at my quilts and purchase quilt kits if they wanted to. (This was after I had given each of them a pattern for free) When it came time to clean up I noticed that two of my quilt kits were missing. That's right 2 QUILT KITS WERE STOLEN FROM ME BY SCHOOL TEACHERS!!!!
How rude is that!
These are ladies who are educating our children and they have no more morals than to steal a quilt kit.
Okay, I'm done ranting, Karma is a bad thing and some day, hopefully every day they see the cute quilt that they made from a stolen quilt kit will haunt them!

Hope you have a happy weekend! :)

  3. to me its incredibly sad that a "grown up" would do such a thing...

  4. I so agree with you - shame on them!

  5. Oh no, that is terrible. We had a local designer who did a trunk show in our LQS. One of her quilts was stolen, one that was published in her quilting book! I just don't get it :-(

  6. I just don't understand people. That is wrong. Plain wrong. I hope whoever took those kits will get an attack of the guilts and bring them back to you.

    Hugs!

  7. OH no! I'm so sorry :( Please be sure to tell an administrator so this won't happen to someone else :(

  8. That's just awful! I'm so sorry you had to deal with this. Many, many {{huggs}}

  9. Oh my word! I don't even know what to say...some things are just beyond word!!

So sorry that happened to you.

  10. Possible they were picked up with the expecation to pay, then forgot about it. At the shop where I work we often deal with customers who have real memory problems and will totally forget they have something in their hand to pay for. But in your case now that these bandits are home with their loot, I'd be surprised if they owned up and offerred to pay for it. Either way, no, I would NOT want these people to teach my children!

  14. It is so sad that you cannot trust even those you would think to be trustworthy. You hate to have to be on guard no matter where but that is our society these days. There is always a remnant of nice, honest people but it only takes 1-2 that spoils it for all. Good girl to let it go and find it in your heart to forgive because they will answer if not now then someday. You DO reap what you sow. We all do!

  15. Yikes! I just don't understand what the world is coming to! Not one but two kits missing....:0(

They will reap what they sew,

  16. Natalia, I'm really sorry this happened to you. I guess it just goes to show that people are people, no matter their occupation -- some are good and some are rotten. I hope you have a great weekend!! :)

  17. That is sad and to think they are teaching our kids;)

  18. Doesn't that just make you sick to your stomach. It isn't only teachers that do that. It seems it is people in general that you trust.

  19. Oh man, I'm so sorry that happened to you! How disheartening.

  22. And chances are they could have afforded to pay for it, if they really wanted it. Just read a comment on my Facebook page from an exhibitor at the International Quilt show in Texas that had her Ipad stolen from the booth at the show. What is wrong with people, I just do not understand it. There are people everywhere who will steal anything, honestly. They should all be smacked right upside the head with the article they stole.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh that is terrible!! I hope you had a HUGE label on the back of each quilt that they will NOT be able to get off!! It would be a sad day if we have to start Micro chipping or putting dye tags on our quilts. But maybe you should when you have quilts at shows.

  24. It's so sad these days..... you just don't think teachers... quilters would do such things....
    I just don't understand..
this is the 2nd post this a.m.. on something like that.. someone stole the lizzie B girls Ipad.. right out of their booth at a show.....
I can't imagine anyone doing such things..
    I'm sorry. :0(

  25. OH NO!! That is messed up! Im sorry :( I would be so mad if that happened. After you took the time to do that they just rip you off.

  26. It's good to get it out, and let it go in the same breath. It's sad that a teacher would resort to that, if they were in great financial distress they could have asked for a deep discount or something.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I work at a bookstore, and can tell you, this is not unusual behavior for educators. The are the worse about "cheating" about what qualifies for their 20% discount. Right in front of their children, they'll lie to you. Not all teachers, but as a group, they're the worse. It's very sad.

  28. I feel for you. How horrible. Place the stolen quilts up on every blog you can find and someone will recognise them. I have had someone come into where we were working on charity quilts and steal yards of fabric. The world is so beautiful and it takes a handful to spoil it.

  29. OH Natalia, no smiles today. I am sew sorry for you. And then peeps wonder why you don't return or you are not as generous with your precious time. When this has happened to me, I remind myself that less than 2% of the population is not sew nice...
And then I continue thinking they must of liked my stuff very much otherwise they would not have taken it...and then I feel a tad better... not a lot, but a tad...
    kiss kiss...bobo of your heart

  30. wow...that is so wrong! What is wrong with people!?! I can't believe anyone would even have the balls to do something like that! Excuse my french! But geese! You would think in the "crafting" community, people are "good". What comes around goes around!

    ReplyDelete
  31. How sad! Especially in this case they will reap what they sew! Hopefully they will be riddled with guilt each time they see the quilt until they can't stand it anymore and right the wrong. That's how it would work in my dream world!

    ReplyDelete
  32. People rarely surprise me anymore with their behavoir. Sorry about this happening to you!

    ReplyDelete
  33. That is such a sad statement on our adult role models. I would be ranting too. Before you let it go, though, be sure you tell the organizers. Or if you want to be nice about it (and maybe instill a little guilt) you could report that some people "misunderstood" that the kits were for sale, not part of the free project, and ask to have the money forwarded to you. Worth a try...then let go :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Really? how tacky is that?? Karma is a "you know what"

    ReplyDelete
  35. Some people are just so low....that is really bad and to think they are teachers....Mmmm...what are they teaching the kids? I dont blame you for being angry about it..I would too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would like to gasp and say WOW I cant believe it, but unfortunately it doesnt surprise me. This is exactly the reason there are so many problems with our children now days. They would all like to put the blame on the parents, and yes I agree parents (Im sure these teachers are parents also) do have alot to do with teaching their children right from wrong, but there are also other influences in our childrens lives also such as these teachers. I too believe in karma and she is a real b*t*h to deal with, so hopefully when they come face to face with her, they realize what it all was for.

    ReplyDelete
  37. they ought to be ashamedof themselves. i bet karma gets them soon (or at least i hope it does!) on a positive note, how awesome is that you got to share your talents with so many people!?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was at the conference, and you gave a wonderful presentation that my friend and I both loved. We were so inspired by your work. I am shocked that this happened! Did you let Debbie know? I'm sure there must be a way to get reimbursed for the kits if you didn't already, but that doesn't make it sting any less. That is just terrible.

Thanks for coming. I hope this won't turn you off from coming back in the future, but we would all understand if it did. I'm so sorry.

  39. You are so right... Your journal( I hate the word blog) Is always inspiring to me--- and never negative. But I'm glad your internet friends are around for you to vent to. It's a sad state when someone steals quilt fabric. But if you are like me....you have tons... and if they had only walked up and said.."I'd love to have this, but don't have the money....what little I know of you.... you'd probably have given it to them. I know that every time they look at that fabric (which will probably never turn into a quilt) They'll reminisce on how they stole it. Sleep tonight with the fact that to treated someone who probably didn't deserve it... and let it go....

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm also a firm believer in Karma! It's a wonderful thing :)

  41. I say this stinks . Keep your chin up and keep on doing what you are doing ; it will all work out for you .

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would love to say I'm surprised, but having had things stolen is something I've experienced too. I am sorry...you'd like to always think the best of people and I hope that you won't be too deterred thinking that still...but unfortunately some people only care about themselves. =( Sad....

  43. Hi Natalie,

Unfortunately its the few that ruin it for everyone. Shame on them, especially as they are supposed to be setting a good example to our kids.
On the bright side just over 98% of them are good people :)lets remember these good people too.
    Hugs, Sharon

  44. Some people just don't have any morals I guess--I know that is horrible , but who can you trust when school teachers are stealing! Keep positive!

  45. wow. that's pretty crappy.

    (how'd the teaching go otherwise?)

  49. It is horrible that these kits should have been stolen at all, quite apart from being it being by teachers or not (good and bad people everywhere). Good for you Natalia to let it go.. I would think that you are morally standing far above these thiefs. You will bear a financial loss and move on with a clear conscience. They will know what they have done, and how can they possibly have any happiness out of these quilts, knowing how they got them? These quilts will forever remind them how wrong their actions were. They have caused you a short, sharp pain, rest assured it will haunt them for a much longer time to come!

    ReplyDelete
  50. That's terrible. Obviously not respectful quilters! I would have been jumping through hoops at a free pattern and the opportunity just to see you teach. People are thoughtless and selfish. It will get them in the Natalia.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm really sorry this happened. The lack of respect for others is astonishing sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Aw common now...quilters are supposed to be above all that right? Poo poo! May all their seams be wonky and may their fabrics run in he wash! At least until their lesson is learned ;P

    ReplyDelete
  53. NO WAY!! That is horrible - I wouldn't have thought it from that group :( sorry

    ReplyDelete
  54. When I read this last night I thought two quilts were stolen. Now I see it's quilt kits. Still sad, but at least it's not the quilt.

I used to own two stores. You can't imagine what and how folks steal stuff. In a retailer's class, the lecturer said it is usually your best customer. They "think" you owe them. Now that made me paranoid!

Onward and upward. Be sure to list it as a general journal entry as stolen for bookkeeping/tax purposes.

  55. Hi, Natalie!
Let's put the things in a different look:your patterns are so good and beautiful that induce a uncontrolled need to have them!....;p...
I just wanted to unknit your brow...(I hope that my dictionary gave me the right translation of the expression...)
I'm really sorry this happened to you!

  56. I am so saddened by this type of behavior. It is shameful & I hope that you can take it up with the organizer of the event so they will know for future event planning

  57. Some days it does seem that no good deed goes unpunished, but we do have to look at the bigger picture, don't we? Yes, you've lost some fabric, but you were not diminished. The one(s) who took your quilt kits WAS diminished. Don't hold on to the bad stuff. Choose to dwell on the good. It will come back to you, one way or another.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Natalia, that was one of the worst human behaviors!!! And unfortunately, our kids teachers are humans! I saw some of my kids's school 's teachers using the cel phone in the school and I thought I was a horrible behavior!!!imagine stealling!!!!
    Shame on them!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Please don't let it give you a bad impression of ALL teachers. (like me) Unfortunately there are unscrupulous people in all walks of life. Remember they were also quilters, and we don't want to think bad of quilters either.:) My Dad always taught me, "What goes around, comes around." And, as I have learned it will do you good to "let it go".

  60. Pretty scary to think that the people we entrust to teach our children would do a thing like that!! Makes you wonder what else they are teaching them and what our world is becoming. Stink for you and also stink for society at large!! I hope that something good and unexpected happens to you to make up for this loss!! xx

  61. As a school teacher, I hope you realize we are not all like that. I apologize for my profession. And that you keep doing what you are doing.

  63. What a bad way to end up what should have been a fun and inspiring day. I'm so sorry Natalia. On a much happier note, I took along Dr Seuss on a retreat this weekend to get the binding on and several folks asked for your contact info. I was happy to pass it along!
