How to: Corn and Beans Quilt Block - 30 Days of Sewing Quilt Blocks

Hey there! I hope all is going great today! We've made it to day 27.

Today's block is:
Corn & Beans
I've had fun creating these blocks, sharing a combination of modern and more traditional designs. Most of these blocks could be made in multiple ways, but I've tried to keep them pretty simple, we've made a lot of half square triangles, they're quick and a great way to use up the fabrics from your stash!
Cutting:
(This block will finish at 12"x12" square.)
White fabric - 16 - 2 7/8"x2 7/8" squares
(Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of these.)
Gray fabric - 16 - 2 7/8"x2 7/8" squares
4 - 2 1/2"x2 1/2" squares

Sewing:
Place one white and one gray 2 7/8"x2 7/8" square right sides together.
Stitch 1/4" on both sides of the draw line.
Cut on the draw line.
Press toward the dark.
Repeat, make a total of 32, gray and white half square triangle blocks.

Sew one 2 1/2" gray square, four half square triangle blocks and one gray 2 1/2" gray square.
Press.
Make two of these, top and bottom rows.
Sew six half square triangle units together, refer to the illustration above for placement.
Press.
Make two of these rows, exactly the same.

Now, let's see what it looks like when made into a 96"x96" quilt.
To make the quilt 96"x96" you'll need to make 64, blocks and sew together in eight rows of eight blocks.
You'll need the following fabrics:
Gray fabric - 7 1/2 yards
White fabric  - 6 3/8 yards

For this fun variation I just added in four colors. I love the little pops of color.

Hope you all enjoy! I'll be back tomorrow with another quilt block, click here to see all of the blocks so far.
