Have you ever tried the Shout Color Catcher?
I have to be honest. I hadn't until just recently. I have been known to turn socks red and ruin all of my clothing, I'm really not the best with laundry (thankfully I have an awesome hubby who does it all :) Anyways, I have been given the opportunity to try out the Shout Color Catcher.
I pulled out one of my quilt that has never been washed. I have to tell you that I was honestly a little skeptical because I have always had great results when I have washed Moda fabrics and this quilt was all made with Moda fabrics.
I pulled out one sheet.
The box says you can use 2-3 for new, dark or non-colofast materials. I chose to just use one since this is a baby quilt.
I put it in the washer with my regular HE (they work in both regular & HE washers) laundry soap and set it on the normal cycle.
The result:
Not a whole lot of color came out but some pink did bleed onto the Shout Color Catcher.
Not a whole lot of color came out but some pink did bleed onto the Shout Color Catcher.
I am impressed. Here I thought my quilts didn't bleed at all!

I use Shoot Color catchers all the time! Love them! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI've not used them yet; but wear a lot of pinks and reds and burgendy's which make me nervous every time I wash. I think I will give a box with the next quilt I make, so the JEWEL-TONES in the quilt stay put. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI have not tried them before. But I think the color catchers would be great for using with regular laundry as well as when I wash my quilts.
ReplyDeleteI'm already a follower.
ReplyDeleteEveryone raves about these but I have never seen them in my local Walmart or Target. I would love a chance to try them! Thanks!!
I don't own them yet, keep forgetting to buy them. But I do have a red & white quilt I just made using fabrics from the late 90's early 2000's. Those fabrics bleed like crazy. None of them were pre-washed either. As soon as I finish the back, I need these color catchers so I can wash, wash, and wash this quilt before I give it to my best friend who moved 6 hours away.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to try these, but forget every time I go to the store. With 2 kids, I'm always buying them new clothes when they outgrow the old ones and I have ruined a BUNCH of stuff (oops) by throwing the new in with the old!
ReplyDeleteI'm already a follower and LOVE Shout Color Catcher! Not only do I use it when washing sewing projects, but new clothes as well. I'm always amazed at what it "catches".
ReplyDeleteI would love the Shout Color Catcher, I haven't seen anywhere up here in Canada and I usually don't wash my fabric first. I am already a happy follower of your blog
ReplyDeleteI just heard some talk about these last week ; good talk ! I'd like to try them and would love to win them from you ! I'm already following (stalking) you !
ReplyDeletehave a great day !
I would love to try this stuff because I HATE pre-washing my fabric! (Oops... did I just say that out loud? Don't tell anyone...)
ReplyDeleteI would hate for something bad to happen to one of my quilts just because of my "one" fault! ;)
I love these! I use them on the first wash of every quilt I make. I through in a few if there is alot of colors I think might bleed or if there is alot of white on my quilt. I have had some really dark catchers come out of the washer but haven't had a quilt bleed issue yet. The cost of the color catchers is small compaired to all the time I have put into my quilt.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower.
I use the colour catchers all the time. I've been amazed how much has come out, and other times absolutely nothing!
ReplyDeleteI will never wash a quilt for the first time without.
I would love to win because I have a red and yellow quilt that needs washing. I have been putting off washing it for fear it would run but now I think I'll give the color catcher a try.
ReplyDeleteI've never used them, but I did recommend them to my daughter and she loves them. I am a follower of your blog. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI follow you - and am glad to add my happiness with the color catchers. I don't like to prewash as I like the crinkle that comes from the shrinkage when I wash my quilts - so I keep boxes of color catchers on hand. I am also finding that the dyes in some of my son's clothes run terribly - so they've been great for that as well!!!
ReplyDeleteI am already a follower. I use color catchers on all the quilts I wash. I totally recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI have been following you around like a puppy dog!! And yes, I would love to try the colour catchers!! They look great! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeletePaulette
I'm already a follower/reader... and just bought my first box of Shout color catchers specifically for the Bottled Rainbows QAL. I washed all the reds/pinks/purples but didn't wash the other colors. I don't want to try washing the entire quilt (once completed) w/o out the color catchers!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a chance at the give-away!
I'm already a follower - have been for a long time - and I love Shout Color Catchers! We work with donated fabric in our quilt ministry, and some of it is quite old - and much less colorfast than modern fabrics! These have saved many a quilt from looking like a muddy mess! So I'd love to win a box to add to my ongoing stash of Color Catchers! We always keep them on hand.....
ReplyDeleteI have a quilt that didn't get prewashef and it has red and tan next to each other. It is all Moda but I thought just to be on the safe side I'd use a color catcher. However, I didn't even know who made them. I thought it was a ball or something, no idea it was a sheet.
ReplyDeleteI have been using Shout color catchers for quite some time.... even when pre-washing fabrics for quilting (but don't do that always) and especially the 1st time I wash a quilt. I've have some really stained cathers come out of the wash, but the quilts looked beautiful! Yes, they work!!
ReplyDeleteI've been gingerly washing quilts for a while now, so a box of these would be great.
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing these a lot lately, I wish I had known about them a couple of months ago when I washed the first quilt I ever made and the red bled all over every part that was white. So sad. I'd don't ever want to go through that again!
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower (although I have been reading your blog for a while now). I would love to try the color catcher. I usually just throw in some distilled vinegar and hope for the best, this might be more precise :) Thanks for the giveaway and I love reading your blog!

I love love LOVE these! I use them with every quilt I wash. Yes, most of the time with quality fabrics it's not necessary, but why take the chance?? When they are necessary they are a lifesaver!
ReplyDeleteI follow! I would love to win and try this product out. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win a box of shout color catcher so I won't be as scared when I have to wash those quilts of mine that have red in them!
ReplyDeleteI would love a box of Color Catcher. I had a nasty experience with a tablerunner I was making for a gift. Thankfully I discovered the RED would run before I finished putting it together, and was able to hand wash the block and save the day. Color Catcher would make it so much easier. Thanks! I follow already.
ReplyDeleteI always wash my quilts with it, especially colourful quilts....in Italy it is called "Acchiappacolore"...;)
ReplyDeleteCiao!
I love these! I use them all the time when prepping my fabrics! I am currently out, so I could use a new box! I am a follower!
ReplyDeleteI use these everytime I wash quilt fabric :) I had a hard time finding them last time and was worried they had been discontinued, so I am glad that isn't the case!
ReplyDeleteMore than once, I've ruined my regular laundry with something red. I would love to try these for my quilts.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower too. :)
As Im not a fan of washing precuts before using them, I would love to try Shout. Ive visited their FB-page, but their samples there were only for US readers :o( Maybe I get lucky here!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win a box of Shout Color Catchers because I just ran out! I use them all the time when washing my quilts (though I tend to toss in 2 or 3 color catchers at a time)!
ReplyDeleteI am already a follower. I love color catchers.
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to try these. Grandma made my girls white nightgowns with red satin trim. Really afraid to wash them without one of these!
ReplyDeleteYes, I use them all the time and never wash a quilt without tossing in a couple of them.
ReplyDeleteI'm already a follower of your blog.
I'm a follower and I use Shout color catchers every time I wash one of my quilts for the first time. I love them! :0)
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower, #1696. I've been reading your blog in my reader.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to have the Color Catchers before I run out of them here. *S*
ReplyDeleteThey work wonderfully.
Not to be negative but they won't keep a color from bleeding into a light fabric sewn next to it. You need to use Retayne or Synthropol to "fix" colors to the fabrics. The catchers just collect what comes loose into washer water.
ReplyDeleteAlso most new washers don't use enought water for some of these products to work.
I love the Color Catchers. I use them for my clothing and my quilts. If I don't wash a quilt before giving it away (baby quilt) I send a color catcher and directions along with the quilt so anyone washing the quilt for the first time won't have bleeding colors or ruin any new clothing they may put with it.
ReplyDeleteOh I need to try this. I'm also lucky my fella does all the laundry. . or I would be crying most of the time.
ReplyDeleteI have been using them for at least 3 yrs... I will NEVER, EVER wash a quilt without one! I also use, every time, Orvus, it is a horse shampoo. I have never, ever had a quilt bleed on me. Even a white and red one!!
ReplyDeleteDonna
I already use them. Like you I was a bit skeptical but now every load gets one, it makes my life much easier.
ReplyDeletealready a follower and LOVE color catchers! They really do work!
ReplyDeleteMade a beautiful quilt with batiks. Was nervous about washing it before giving it away...added a Shout sheet...came out black! Washed it again with a new sheet...came out lighter black...Washed it again, new sheet...came out grey....Washed it again, new sheet...came out light grey.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big believer now!
oops, forgot to say that I'm already a follower.
ReplyDeleteHi, I am a follower. I'd love to win because I've been wanting to try these out but haven't found them at my supermarket yet.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower :)
ReplyDeleteI may need that box of Color Catcher for the quilt I'm making my son. I've used mostly red's with black and black's with red but there is obviously some white throughout. I didn't prewash, and I know that reds are notorious for bleeding. I should know better!! I don't think he'd appreciate a red, black and PINK quilt LOL
I would love to try those with all the quilting and crocheting I do...the yarn tends to run a lot and I hate having to wash everything separately, multiple times before it stops!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win a box of these! So far cannot buy them where I live in Canada. I am also a new follower!
ReplyDeleteI use these all the time! They are great for dark batiks that tend to run.
ReplyDeleteI am already a follower. I'd love to try these out on a quilt I am hand quilting. It has a lot of burgundy and pinks in it, and even though I prewashed the fabrics, I would hate to have them bleed after all my hard work!
ReplyDeleteSandy A
I want to win these because my mother keeps telling me how great they are! I just keep forgetting to pick some up, but they sound great!
ReplyDeleteI'm already a follower. I've tried these and I love them. They really work great with washing quilts. I would love to win a box of these. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower and I would love to try the color catchers on a new quilt.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried these, but would love to - Thanks!
ReplyDeleteShout has saved my fabric life many, many times. I wish we'd had it over 40 years ago when I was a new bride and turned all my husband's underware pink. He does laundry now except for my fabric. :)
ReplyDeleteI am a follower and I would love to win these color catchers because I have so much trouble finding them in PODUNK!
ReplyDeleteOooooh I'd love these! I don't have my own washer, so I have to pay $3 per load, which sucks if all you're washing is one color of something at a time... it takes months for me to wash all of the fabric needed for a quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteI love color catchers! I would not wash a finished quilt without one. Especially one made with any reds. They have saved me a number of times over the years. Thanks for the opportunity to win!=)
ReplyDeleteI like to try this product as it sounds like a good thing -- especially for quilts with fabrics that haven't been prewashed. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI have been using these for about 6 months now....all I can say is wow wow wow. You would be simply amazed how they will catch any run of color...I don't prewash any of my fabrics. I washed a quilt that had white/black/red and I have to admit I did hold my breath and threw in a couple of the shout sheets and I couldn't believe it nothing ran into the white...It's amazing...I have also reused them, throw a used one in along with a half or whole new one and your good to go...
ReplyDeleteEven if I don't win, this is a great way to get the word out just how wonderful they are...When indoubt use 2....
I would love to win a box of them. I have been meaning to try it out.
ReplyDeleteShot has been great - For all quilts, I wash them using Shout Color Catchers.
ReplyDeleteAngie - http://craftedAngles.com
I would love to win a box! I think this is a great product for washing your quilts with! :)
ReplyDeleteMy hubby does our laundry too! Back in the 80's when we were both working - and had our kids at home - we had to divide up the housework and he took the laundry and dishes. It has worked out great!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower! I hadn't heard of this product. I'm always worried about washing reds & purples, so I wait until I have a full load to wash them, even then the water is a pinky red color. I'll have to look for these at the store. Thanks for a chance to win! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try these since I never sort ANYTHING when I do wash.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to send you a quick note , I just got a email from your account tonight that had a direct link to a Canadian pills pharmacy. I think your email may have been hacked
ReplyDeletei haven't tried these yet but would love to give them a try.
ReplyDeleteI usually prewash my fabric but lately have been just a little slack in that dept! these would really prevent any mishap from my missing a few fat quarter bundles not being washed!
thanks
Kathie
I've just finished a quilt that has red fabric. I don't know if it will bleed but I don't want to take a chance. I need some color catchers.
ReplyDeleteI would like to win because I riuned a stitchery of mine... here there are some posts with photos: I had to do coffee bath! http://ilblogdipepe.blogspot.com/search/label/File%20%C3%A9toile%20de%20lin
ReplyDeleteI've never used a Shout color catcher -- and we have a red quilt that needs washing. Please enter me into the giveaway - my mother nixed buying the catchers because of the expense. Thanks. BTW - I'm reading over your Bloggers Block a Palooza finishing instructions for the applique.
ReplyDeleteMy husband bought these for me by mistake. Opening the box I was hit with intense perfume that made my head spin. I hung them outside for a couple of days before I could use them. I may baby quilts and for my health and theirs I don't like using strong chemicals or scents. I just ordered ten boxes of Color Grabbers by Carbona which last at least thirty washing's.
