Wiggling - A Modern One-Block Quilt: Bonus Give-Away

I did it! In my "spare time" this week, I managed to cut out, piece, quilt and bind.....yes you read that right, I BOUND a quilt! It's nothing shy of a miracle.
Kathleen and I have been working through Modern One-Block Quilts, over the last year, re-making all of the quilts in the baby versions. It's been so much fun to see how different the quilts look from the original versions. So today I'm sharing another adorable quilt from Modern One-Block Quilts; Wiggling. We originally made this quilt using more earthy tones and blue sashing, I do love the original version, but have been dying to make it again using white! I love white!

When I came across this adorable At The Zoo, fat quarter bundle over at Fat Quarter Shop, I knew immediately that I had to use that fabric for my quilt. I love the variety of colors in this bundle, and the scale of the prints is just perfect for this quilt! (keep reading, Fat Quarter Shop is giving one of these beauties away)

After I got the quilt all pieced, I knew it had to be custom machine quilted, so I machine quilted some figure eights in the sashing and then a bud pattern in half of the blocks and a geometric spiral in the remaining blocks. I used Quilters Dream Wool as the batting, it's so yummy and soft!
Aren't those colors so gorgeous! Love it!
So, do you want to make your own version of Wiggling?
Here's your chance to win fabric!
Simply leave a comment below telling me your very favorite type of batting and why. On Monday, 11/10/14 I will randomly select one person to win their very own At The Zoo Fat Quarter Bundle, courtesy of Fat Quarter Shop!

Speaking of Fat Quarter Shop, make sure to stop by their YouTube channel, Kimberly is always coming up with something great!
Oh, and if you haven't seen enough pictures today, here's the original version of Wiggling! :)

Signed copies of Modern One-Block Quilts are available for purchase here.

  1. I usually use Warm & Natural, but for a recent quilt I got an 80/20 cotton/wool blend. I've only sandwiched it, not quilted yet, but it's looking like it's going to be really nice.

  2. I love that quilt! What a great pattern to show off fun prints! When I quilt myself I used warm and white because it seems to cling really well to the fabric and drapes well. However, I do love my quilts made with Quilters Dream!

  3. Your quilt is so cute and I love the cat/tiger print it's my favorite! I'm using Luna Simple Cotton Vlies for bigger quilts (found it at a favorite online shop of mine) and some Freudenberg Vlies (but I don't know the number yet) for smaller quilts (and I use it because my LQS has it). I'm from Germany so it can be that we have other battings than you in the USA.

  5. Hobbs Heirloom Cotton (80/20) works best for me. It has a little more loft and drapes nicer than Warm & Natural.

  6. I like the warm and natural cotton! Haven't tried any others yet though so I'm checking to see what all your readers like. Your quilt is just lovely. Great job!

  7. I like Warm and White. I make a lot of quilts with light or white backgrounds and I try to maximize my cotton content. I can buy it off the shelf locally and that is a bonus. I won a package of bamboo batting that will probably get sampled in my next baby size quilt. Thanks for the chance to win a great fabric bundle. Wiggling is an adorable pattern.

  8. My favorite would have to be Warm & Natural Cotton batting. I love the way it can give any quilt that pre- "Vintage" look & feel.

  10. I am too new to quilting to have a favorite batting, although I am very interested in trying wool. Right now I am quilting a twin sized quilt for my granddaughter with Quilter's Dream blend, and I very much like the weight and ease of quilting.

  11. I have used both Warm & Natural and Quilter's Dream. Both work well for me. I love the remade quilt using white sashing. It is delightful.

  13. I have been using a bamboo blend which I can get locally and I like.
    Gorgeous quilt!

  14. Gorgeous quilt, reminds me of Christmas colours! My favourite batting was a bamboo one, I've only used it once in a quilt for my son but it is lovely and soft and with a low loft, sadly it's too expensive for me to use every time!

  22. Nice job with the new version of your quilt! Glad you were able to find some time. I usually use Warm and Natural because I like cotton and can get it at a good price from Joanns. I have just heard about Tuscany's new cotton/wool blend, which would seem like the best of both worlds. I am anxious to get some and see how I like it.

  23. My favorite batting is Hobbs 80/20. I have sworn off 100% cotton. After I used it in a baby quilt, DH asked if I had forgotten to include batting. Duh! Even I couldn't forget batting.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I do not really have a favorite; but, I do try to get 100% cotton batting. I think I get Warm and Natural more often than not.

  25. Hobbs a Heirloom 80/20 is my favorite but I usually use Warm & Natural bacause I can buy it nearby with a coupon.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I haven't gotten experimental with my batting yet. I use warm and natural unless I really want the quilting to pop, then I try the higher loft blends.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Your quilt is gorgeous! Love the white background. I've used Warm & Natural for years and love it. It's great to read the other comments as well.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Warm and Natural, is my favorite. I don't like how polyester batting feels when I touch it. I guess I'm a cotton loving girl. Your quilt is beautiful. You finished it so quickly, I wish I could accomplish that. ;-> Toni Anne

  48. Natalia, that is quite impressive! If only I had half of your amibition. ;) I truly prefer Warm & Natural because it's versatile, and VERY good quality! :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Fairly new quilter here, so usually its warm & natural or soft n craft (an 80/20 blend) I've only done home dec projects and several couch throws and baby blankets.. so sometimes it's whats in the drawer...

    ReplyDelete
  50. I have used silk batting that comes off a big roll... I love the feel, and that it breathes and is easy to quilt. However, I have ordered some wool batting from Massdrop, which I think will be great for winter quilts. I am looking forward to try that!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Love the colors of your quilt, aqua and red is always a winner! I live in the Middle East and unfortunately
the only batting I have found in local shops is Bosal,80/20. Which is fine to work with but I would love the opportunity to try other lofts and fibers, especially bamboo. On my next trip overeseas I will have to stock up!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I usually use Warm & Natural but have some Quilter's Dream that I haven't had a chance to use yet.

    ReplyDelete
  63. up until my last project, I had only used warm and natural batting. I tried the Hobbs all cotton. I think I definitely prefer the warm and natural though it seems like it had a better weight both before and after quilting.

    ReplyDelete
  64. This quilt is so darling!
I have 2 different types of batting which are my favs...bamboo-love its softness to cuddle and wool for my applique beauties. Wool seems to really give an extra specialness to the time spent doing applique.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I once used the wool and is was so soft and drapy, I quite liked it, but happy to be personally allergic to it. For most of my quilts, I use the 80/20 however. I even once used the Quilters Dream Green Quilt Batting, the batting made from recycled bottles. It was unbelievably soft and cozy - I just wasn't sure how it would last long term. Try it! Out of habit - I reach for the 80/20.
