Diamond in a square quilt block {a mini tutorial} and a giveaway!

I love my Accuquilt GO! It's such a handy tool!
I shared last week how I prep my bindings using the Accuquilt GO!
Now I've made a diamond in a square quilt block using the Accuquilt GO!
Materials needed:
Value Die
1- approx 5" square
1- 2"x6" strip of material
Using your value die you will lay the blue print on the 1/2 square triangle section of the die. Then lay your ivory material on the 4 1/2" square portion of the die.
Place the cutting mat on the die and roll through the Accuquilt GO! cutter.
I like how the scraps were pretty minimal.
My cut pieces.
For one block you will need four 1/2 square triangles and 1 4 1/2" square.
Now sew two of the triangles onto your background, as shown in the image above.
Trim away excess material.
Press the block open.
Sew the other two 1/2 square triangles onto the block, as shown in the image above.
Trim away excess materials and press. Creating one 4 1/2" diamond in a square quilt block.
I love the Accuquilt GO! It's so much fun to sew with PERFECTLY cut materials!
Wouldn't you love to have an Accuquilt GO! of your own? We'll Accuquilt is is sponsoring an Accuquilt GO! giveaway! With this giveaway you will win 1 Accuquilt GO! cutter and 3 dies of your choice.

  2. Also, a topic for Talkin' Tuesday's would be how to design a quilt. Give ideas of how you pick colors, come up with the design, etc.

  3. Follower of all three...feels kind of stalker-esque saying that lol.

I'd love to know how many people are doing machine vs hand binding.

  8. I always want to join Talkin' Tuesday but it is the same night as my little sewing night. We go to friends houses and work on project till about midnight :) Good Times. Maybe if it ends early one time I can join in. I do have a question though. Why did you choose your particular long arm quilter aka what do you look for in a long arm quilter. (I would love to purchase one a few years down the road, but I have no idea where to start.)

  9. My question is similar to Melissa's but instead of a LA machine, it is about picking a LA quilter person. How do you go about picking someone to do your LA quilting? What questions should you ask/things to look for?

  19. I follow, I like, I guess I just stalk. :-) I love all the things you have done and really appreciate the time you have taken to show the rest of us how you do what you do.

As far as Talking Tuesdays, I would love to know how to put my own charm packs together. I seem to screw up the colors every time. They are either too contrasty or too matchy-matchy.

  20. And I will just continue along the binding questions: how wide do people cut it and how wide of a foot do they use to sew it on? I've seen 2.5" with a 3/8" foot, 2.25" with a 1/4" foot...

  23. For Talkin' Tuesdays, I'd love a discussion on quilting perfectionism -- if you make a mistake, and you're the only one that will ever notice, do you unpick and fix it or just leave it and live with it?

  24. Do you know how long I've been waiting for you to offer this giveaway....I've done a lot of these on other blogs that I follow (of stalk heeheehee) which I haven't won yet....it would be nice to win let me tell ya....

  30. I'm new to Twitter but I signed up for tonight - sounds like fun! I hope I can figure it out!
My question would be about the rag quilt dies for the GO ~ has anyone tried these? Do they work well or is it hard to keep all the little cuts out of the way while you're sewing?

  43. I have participated in the Talkin' Tuesdays. I enjoyed it a lot. I try to do other ones, the time is just a bit later in my time zone. A question I have is about binding. I have yet to bind my own quilts. What do you think is the fastest way to do it? I really need to finish some, and you seem to bust them out so quickly. Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Here's my question (although I don't think I can participate in the talk because it will be 11pm here when it starts): How do others go about creating accurate 1/4" seams? I have a 1/4" seam foot for my machine but it doesn't seem to be accurate and it's very frustrating!

  72. I love Talkin Tuesdays, so much that I even sometimes get on there on Mondays and tweet to myself on accident. (Okay, that was my first one, and I was so confused why I was the only one tweeting...too funny)

ANYWAYS! I have so much I want to know from all of you that are making AMAZING quilts. But right now, I'm stuck on fabrics. I got all excited to start some blocks, got everything ready...and sat and spazzed about what fabrics go together!! I ended up giving up for the night and accomplishing nothing. So...I've seen some people have color coded cards, how do other people put patterns and colors together!???!

I bet the Go helps with fingers hurting from all the cutting you dont have to do now ! Do the think the cost of the diffrent plates to cut diffrent sizes are worth buying?I could even teach my grand kids to help and not worry about them cutting it wrong or cutting themselfs. Thanks for showing it to us and all the tutorial.

I guess my question would be: is there much waste when using the AccuQuilt Go! since you have to tilt it sideways and it cuts out one tiny piece in the center?
Since I won't be there on Tuesday night, maybe you could refer me to a link that has answers?

  158. How cool is the Accuquilt? And what a timesaver. Similar to scrapbook die cut machines! Thanks for the chance to win. As far as Tuesday topics i have not been able to participate so i am not sure of the discussions already but i would be interested in maybe the top 5 go-to reasonably priced quilt gadgets or helps you guys would suggest. Thanks!

  159. I am a follower on your blog. I'd like to hear you discuss how to cut costs. It doesn't seem to be a problem for many of the blogs I read, but I do have a budget!

  163. Thanks for the great tutorial on the block! I can see where the accuquilt would really be a time saver in making a lot of these. I recently discovered your website and blog, and I am now a fan on facebook. Sorry, I do not twitter, so I cannot join in on your Tuesday chats. Your blog is an inspiration!

  168. I missed talkin tuesday (darned time zone difference, and squirrely preschooler who took a long time to go to bed), but would love to talk sewing machines in the future - what does everyone have, and what do you like and dislike about it?

  173. Talkin' Tuesday subject: I would love to learn how people can pick out or come up with a quilt design based on a certain amount of fabric they have. For example I have 2 charm packs, 12 fat quarters, and some yardage and need to somehow turn it into a twin size. But I"m a beginner so I need something simple. It takes forever to find a pattern to work with what I have.
