My reality......

If you've been to my studio before you know that I'm far from perfect. I try to keep it clean and under control but with a 3yr old running around and playing all day every day while I stand at my quilting machine some day's it's far far far from perfect.
Also, if you were come to my studio on a day that I wasn't expecting you, you'd probably see me like this.
No shoes or socks, I despise shoes and socks. Flip flops all year long, no matter how much snow.
Showing off my nasty black toe that is still black from the half marathon.
I may be wearing my favorite comfy pants that have lots of worn out spots that my husband despises. :)
You may also find my hair in one of those, just got out of the shower and threw my hair in a pony tail things.
In my studio you may also see way more of these babies than I'd like to admit, especially lately.... I've been working on something exciting, and have needed a little caffeine to stay awake all night, more details to come later. :)
Even though things aren't always perfect and some days I put in way too many hours I will never complain. I really love what I do. I love that I have to opportunity to work, I love that I have the opportunity to spend time with my daughter, I love that I am able to spend a lot of time with my parents and husband, well when I can get him to stay at the studio for more than 5 minutes.

That's the reality of me in a nutshell.
I'd love to hear about yours. :)

  1. Even though my little ones are 31 and almost 30 and have the 3 year olds themselves.. my studio still stays messy.. I am a messy quilter/crafter.. I do keep a garbage can on both ends of my longarm but my aim is off a lot! But I do clean up in between quilts so that counts for something, right?

As much as I loved going barefoot in the past, that isn't anywhere in my future now because of achilles tendonosis. So now you will see me in some really awful looking Mary Jane type shoes but they keep me walking and working so I won't talk too bad about them.

And there is nothing like going barefoot in the snow!!

I had a pair of comfy pants once that my sister was always threatening to burn if she ever caught me out of them! ha! We have to be comfy when we work! Nothing better than that!

You will catch me with my tongue out on my lip when I work if you sneek in and wait long enough. My sister and hubby both say I wouldn't be able to work if someone taped my mouth shut.lol

You will hear easy listening music and hear me humming along most days while I quilt. I don't watch much television during the day.. Music is where its at in my studio.

I also LOVE what I do! I have been quilting since I was 19 and cannot envision myself NOT quilting.

I am excited to see the quilt you are working on! I can only imagine how special it is going to be!

  2. I rarely wear shoes inside either, and I like slide on sandals in summer and clogs in winter. :) I hope you get to a breathing/resting place soon!

  3. I am wwith you all the way on the flipflops!
Are you trying to tell me that there are people in the world who don't dress like this. Oh good heavens I hope not they have no idea what they are missing! You go girl!

  4. I admire your honesty. I think a lot of us "mom" quilters wear PJs while we quilt;)

  5. My PJs are leggings and an oversize long-sleeve shirt. I have figured out that if I tie a sarong over my hips, I wear that, can go anywhere I want, be legal, and have people say nice things about the gorgeous colors and patterns inherent in Hawaiian fabric. As long as I shower and change once every 24, I am good. Right ?~!

  6. My goal is to be able to spend a day quilting. Until then I have 2 little boys (2 & 4) who require many hours of running, and that is not an option inside. When left inside for too long they become like magnets who are attracted to one another and roll all over the place as though they were one. That then leads to crying and broken things...

I do desire to quilt full time, but until that time I am enjoying the joys of boys!!!

  7. I can't wait to see what you have been working on all night long. And my quilts turned out so beautifully. Thank you so much.

  8. I work fulltime so my time to make quilts and other fun things are set to evenings and weekends.
My husband is very understanding. His only requirements are cloths for work and some food once in a while. When I go into my sewing room I loose track of time. I get into a project and the next thing I know its 11PM. Hubby will come in and say its getting late, how about coming to bed. I say in a minute but it never is. About 12 or 1 AM I am quietly crawling into bed knowing that tomorrow morning will be ugly. I keep saying I wont do that again, and I do.
But the fun is worth it all. And when I come out with a finished project and show hubby he trys to say something positive. He is not a fan of the kids bright colors.
