Hey there! Are you ready for another Sunday Stitches tutorial? I thought it would be fun today to share how-to machine quilt this Spinning X quilt block. I had a lot of fun machine quilting a few of these this past week on April's Modern Building Blocks quilt, so I thought I'd share.
Step 1. Begin stitching in the upper left corner, stitch in the ditch around the entire block.
Step 2. Stitch from the upper left corner diagonally to the bottom right corner.
Stitch in the ditch from the bottom right corner to the top right corner.
Stitch from the top right corner diagonally to the bottom left corner.
(Follow the orange line.)
Step 3. Stitch a diagonal line from the bottom left corner to the right (orange) line, about 1/2" from the X.
Stitch down the diagonal line about 1/2".
Stitch from the diagonal line back to the bottom left corner.
From the bottom left corner stitch back to the X, about 1/2" lower than the previous stitch line.
Stitch down the diagonal line to the bottom right corner.
(Pink line indicates step 3.)
Step 4. Stitch a diagonal line from the bottom right corner to the top (orange) line, about 1/2" from the X.
Stitch up the diagonal line about 1/2".
Stitch from the diagonal line back to the bottom right corner.
From the bottom right corner stitch back to the X, about 1/2" higher than the previous stitch line.
Stitch up the diagonal line to the upper right corner.
(Green line indicates step 4.)
Step 5. Stitch a diagonal line from the upper right corner to the bottom (orange) line, about 1/2" from the X.
Stitch up the diagonal line about 1/2".
Stitch from the diagonal line back to the upper right corner.
From the upper right corner stitch back to the X, about 1/2" higher than the previous stitch line.
Stitch up the diagonal line to the upper left corner.
(Blue line indicates step 5.)
Step 6. Stitch a diagonal line from the upper left corner to the bottom (orange) line, about 1/2" from the X.
Stitch down the diagonal line about 1/2".
Stitch from the diagonal line back to the upper left corner.
From the upper left corner stitch back to the X, about 1/2" lower than the previous stitch line.
Stitch down the diagonal line to the lower left corner.
(Red line indicates step 6.)

ReplyDeleteCan anyone explain to me why on the actual picture,there are 4 diagonal lines of stitching per quarter section of block, but on the drawn out diagram, there are only three? What am I missing?
