Ilene made this beautiful version of American Stars. The pattern for this quilt is from our book, Modern One-Block Quilts.
When Ilene sent me this quilt I immediately knew that it could have some cool custom machine quilting.
Ilene actually pieced the original version for Kathleen and I, the gray and white version in our book. When I machine quilted the original version I chose to machine quilt an edge to edge chevron pattern, you can check out the original version here, I wanted the traditional looking stars on the original quilt to look more modern, and I believe that quilting can totally give a quilt a more modern feel. This version of Ilene's quilt needed to be something special, so I felt that the custom machine quilting would really help make this one extra special.
I chose to mix some ruler work with some free motion quilting and then I machine quilted feathers in the outer border. I really love how it turned out!
Thanks for letting me machine quilt your beautiful quilt Ilene!
When I machine quilted this quilt I used some of my favorite notions;

American Stars pattern can be found in Modern One-Block Quilts.
