What's your notion?

I just put a new blade in my rotary cutter! Man, it's amazing how dull the previous one had gotten.
Each month at our local quilt guild we have a quick tip or trick? A lot of the ladies share their favorite notion. Something that makes their life a little more simple. This sparked a new interest in my mind.
What is your favorite notion?
I would love to know.

It's Monday, lets have a happy week!

  1. Asides from the basics, like rotary cutter, rulers, I love my Angler 2! It helps so much in accuracy, and not having to draw all those lines!

  2. I can't live without the drawer-bins I use to organize all of my threads, binding tape, scissors, and other accessories. Without the organization, I can't find any of the useful notions to make my work easier!

  3. I am bad about changing my blades. I did get a sharpener, so need to try it out. My new fun notion is the wavy blade, makes great rick rack.

  4. I'm doing a lot of paper piecing right now, so my favorite notion is the OmniGrid 4" x 8" ruler (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat3438&PRODID=prd791413). It has 1/8" markings and is small enough to keep by my machine and helps me trim paper piecing up quickly, but still large enough to also do 'functional' cutting.

  5. How funny! I just changed my blade yesterday. One thing I do when I put a new blade in is to write the date on it with a sharpie. It helps me to remember how long it's been since I changed it!

I also do the same thing with my needles in my machine. I have a sticky note on the side of my machine by the needle, and I jot down the date I change the needle, or more common in my case, break the needle.

My absolute favorite notion, lately at least, is the Purple Thang. It's like a stiletto, but better - it doesn't poke through the edges when you're turning things, and it can be used to help guide (force?) things through your machine as you're sewing (Hmmm...broken needles & forcing, is there a correlation?)

I also LOVE those small glass headed, very fine pins. I've tried all different kinds of pins, these work great! :)

  6. The easy angle ruler is my fav, I make alot of half square triangles. I would use Thangles, but taring the paper a way is a pain when you have alot. So the easy angle ruler saves the use of the paper

  7. I love the feel of a new rotary blade but I'm really cheap too.... and last time I went to JoAnn's to buy one, they were sold out! So I'm still using a bad old one.

I guess the kwik klip for pin basting is one of my faves... can't think of anything else. I use my little thread clippers a lot, hate leaving long threads behind.

  8. love that zippidy feel a new blade gives you!

my new fave tool is the thing-a-ma-bob that I can't remember it's name but it helps me draw FAST and ACCURATE diagonal lines on the back of the squares I use for half square triangles. Wish I could think of it, I love it.

  10. Ok, I'm going to be different here and say I have a love/hate relationship with the seam ripper. What would I do without it?

  12. I love the 1 inch by 6 inch ruler my sister bought me (Omnigrid). What a great little tool to keep in your sewing kit.
