How to: Dandy Star- 30 Days of Sewing Quilt Blocks- Star Version

Hey there! It's time for another quilt block tutorial, I think we just have 3 more to go! :)
Today's fun and fast quilt block is the Dandy Star.



Cutting:
This block will finish at 12"x12" square.

White fabric:
5- 4 1/2"x4 1/2" squares
2- 4 7/8"x4 7/8" squares

Yellow fabric:
8- 2 1/2"x2 1/2" squares, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of these.

Purple fabric:
2- 4 7/8"x4 7/8" squares, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of these.

Sewing:
Place one white and one purple 4 7/8" square right sides together.
Sew 1/4" on both sides of the draw line.
Cut on the draw line.
Press toward the darker fabric.

Repeat, make a total of four purple and white half square triangle blocks.

Place one yellow 2 1/2" square on the upper left corner of one white 4 1/2" square.
Sew along the diagonal line.
Trim 1/4" on the outside of the draw line.
Press toward the darker fabric.


Place one yellow 2 1/2" square on the upper right corner of one white 4 1/2" square.
Sew along the diagonal line.
Trim 1/4" on the outside of the draw line.
Press toward the darker fabric.

Repeat, make a total of four of these units.

Sew one purple and white half square triangle block, one yellow and white block and one purple and white half square triangle block.
Press.

Repeat, make two of these rows.

Sew one yellow and white unit, one 4 1/2" white square and one yellow and white unit.

Press.

Sew the three rows together.

Now, to make this into a 96"x96" quilt you'll need the following fabrics:

White fabric:
7 5/8 yards

Yellow fabric:
1 5/8 yards

Purple fabric:
2 5/8 yards

Above is the fun quilt that comes from one block repeating. In the version below I simply swapped color placement on every other block. So much fun!
